If you look at their facebook announcement, they cancel 4 shows and say for one of them "hold onto your tickets for reschedule information or get a refund" and for the other 3 (including Richmond and DC) they just say "get your money back at place of purchase." :-\

Earlier this evening, a severe thunderstorm with high winds passed over Lockn' and caused damage to the festival grounds, particularly the parking and campground area. The good news is that no one was injured and the entire team is focused on cleaning up and preparing for a great festival. The unfortunate news is that we will be forced to delay the opening of the campgrounds and cancel Thursday?s performances in order to give the team the time necessary to make sure the festival grounds are safe for both our guests and our artists.
Despite the inconvenience the storm has caused, we count ourselves lucky that everyone is safe and that we have three great days of music ahead of us. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Don't the bands (in venues the size of 930 and up) typically agree on with the venue on what they will get paid?
then the venue figures out the price based on that..and the assumption it will fill 80% of the venue and make a profit on drinks (and 20% of the merch)
I guess there could be a clause in the contract that if they don't sell 50% of the tickets by X date...the show gets canceled?

I've been there a few times. One seated show and the others standing. Just a big concrete room with a bar to the side. Sound was fine every time. The place is a little hard to find. I just got off the phone with my mom, who is going shopping our of her apartment for the third day in a row, this time to get dog food "because my neighbor just stopped by and told me the store is getting low on dog food." She also told me that when the develop a vaccine "I aint taking none, I'm wise enough to know that vaccines are bad for you, I have a friend with three kids who don't have any vaccines, and they're in perfect health.

This damn coronavirus presents a real long term threat to our way of live and we are not coping well as a species. We are sort of ignoring the big issues and trying patchwork solutions.
It’s also a worldwide issue…we need to get everyone vaccinated everywhere…the more the existing variants spread say in Indonesia the more new variants we will get and I believe eventually we will end up with viruses that our current vaccines can’t handle
We need to have a global body with money and teeth to coordinate everything from vaccine production to distribution
We need massive R&D investment in a coordinated effort to stay ahead of the virus
It needs to be a major effort along the lines of say WWII
It’s not just vaccinate and we are done let’s party which is the current attitude in America

And yes vaccines need to be mandatory and vaccine passports need to happen but even with that I don’t believe we can go back to normal

the main reason is that between labo(u)r shortages and increasing health requirements a lot of hotels, restaurants and bars in whistler are shutting down. add the threat of the border closing again and it all became too risky. for some. apparently.

I just listened to Rick Rubin interview him on his podcast Broken Record (which is fantastic by the way, the Malcom Gladwell one with Flea confirmed that Flea's book is one of the best out there)

touring is a good way to break the US market
back in the day, bands toured in order to sell albums.back then you HAD to have label support or there was no record
recently, bands release albums in order to make money on tour.this is 100% of the case for most bands who play 9:30 club and below. A band who can consistently do 30 date tours and pack the places can make a decent living. The make next to nothing from album sales these days. Its even cheaper to create an album, so less need for a record deal. I will say, one thing I kinda of agree with Agaz was it's kinda lame for the venue to take a big cut of the merch sales. Don't think it should be zero, but 20-25% seems like highway robbery for a band trying to make a buck
now they can't make money on touring?? what's left??it's expensive to take an entourage on a US tour from a foreign country, so I'm always surprised that some small bands tour from europe, but they really need you to show up and buy merch

Huge Natalie fan. I was actually quite infatuated with her back in the day. I'll never forget the back to back 10K Maniac shows I caught at the old 9:30. Between songs and during instrumental breaks, she read a book-appearing somewhat aloof in a beguiling way. Still gives me goosebumps.

Around the late 90s Natalie decided she didn’t care about selling records. She sort of decided to record what she wanted when she wanted and kind of walked away from it all. She plays what she wants when she wants.

I can’t believe they went on to finish the first leg of the tour with him sitting in a chair but from a financial standpoint they almost had to….it’s got to hurt their pockets to cancel cause these big tours usually require big upfront costs and really rake as they go on

Only way for bands like this to look at as a loss, but an investment in the future, as the tour could break them in to a band that could come and pack the black cat...then I think shows with 500-750 on a 20 show tour could be profitable

Will I be refunded, or will the original purchaser? I guess the same question goes for the people who all bought $6 scalped tickets. Will they get the full refund (and make money!!!) or will the scalper who originally bought it receive the refund?
