watched "labyrinth" for the first time last night.
very much "of it's time" production wise, but enjoyably silly and worthwhile.
bit of a mash-up of "the wizard of oz" and "where the wild things are" story lines . the character 'ludo' looked a lot like terry gilliam, loved that door knocker scene and could definitely understand how bowie's character could have warped minds.

I've been listening to Black Star a lot lately. One thought I keep having is, if we were all under the impression that his health was fine, would it be as praised as it is? Am I only into it so much because I knew it was his final musical statement?

I mean, it's impossible to listen to it on its own; you have to factor in that he knew he was dying when he was recording it. But would I have liked it so much if it was just another new Bowie album? I didn't give much time or love to The Next Day or really any of his 90s and 00s albums.

I was getting my hair cut a couple weeks ago and the shop had a copy of Rolling Stone from December.  There was an article about the upcoming Bowie album and they had nothing but terrific things to say about it.  The mentioned his earlier health issues and how that may have impacted the record, but there was no hint that he was currently so fragile.  They raved about it though.  Bssically "He's back and as good as ever."  It was weird reading that article post-death.   We'll never really be able to have that clean objectivity regarding the album.

Praise and respected, probably yes. As a sought after must-have collectible, probably not. Like they say, you only matter when you're dead.
