Free range parenting is one of the dumbest terms of this millennium.

Is that your comment on the term or the ideas themselves? If the former, do you have a better name? If the latter, why?

I myself don't care one way or another beyond what i already stated, just interested in hearing opinions.

I, personally, agree with the general concept.

To me, the thing that's weird about it is, a few decades ago, that was "parenting." It was the norm. Then people started going cuckoo bananas and we had to make up a term for those parents who went over the top and deviated from the norm ("helicopter parents" et al). There's something about calling it "free range parenting" that makes it seem as though this normal balance between security and not suffocating your kids is now a deviation from the norm, that it is the weird minority opinion. Which, if true, is sad. It's like people who use terms like "fat shaming" and "thin privilege" in an attempt to rebrand what is right as wrong and what's wrong as right.

if there is one thing, I know about other human beings, on the road . . . never, ever, stop to help them or pick them up. ever.  even if they are on fire, dying on the side of the medium, waving and begging for you to help.  never, ever.

Most terms of the millennials are pretty fucking stupid, 'go/went missing' is right there at the top of the list as well.

(Typo fixed to prevent a stroke by any concerned parties.)

I was given a 24 pack of Mountain Dew. I do not drink Mountain Dew. I also am not technically a SysAdmin. I don't think my office is doing this correctly.

There is so much you are not doing correctly, it is not surprising that your job is on that list.

Nope just using a keyboard that has been savaged by Mt Dew on more than one occasion.  Thanks for playing along douche bag.

If you wanted this 24 pack of Mountain Dew, all you had to do was ask.

I don't love the term either, but it was a two word way to describe it

Kids need to skin their knees, get dirty, play in an abandoned lots, climb tall trees

if a few die, just thinning the heard

far worse to have sheltered kids who have no idea how to deal with the real world and make decisions on their own
slack

wtf 'alternative parenting'?!?  If it actually worked, it would just be called 'parenting'.

For us, I don't think it's a case of helicoptoring vs. free range...I think it's a case of we are both full time working parents, and we want to spend the time we're not working with our kid. I would never turn down a playdate invitation for my kid, but at the same time why would I seek out opportunities to dump her on another parent, or send her off to play alone...when my time with her is already limited?

As far as her preferences, she'd spend 25 hours a day with her parents if she could. i'm sure that won't be the case when she hits teenhood, but for now I'm happy to oblige as much as possible...

I also prefer the idea of you spending -1 hours a day on here.
