I can find almost any large-ish city enjoyable for a weekend. I have extolled the praises of Oklahoma City, Boise, even Cleveland. But Charlotte is possibly the worst “city” I’ve ever been to. There’s nothing there. It’s the anti-Asheville. Asheville is all personality and fun and Charlotte is the kind of place where they find avocados exotic still.
What's your opinion vof Greenville, SC? I always call considered it the anti-Asheville.
I have never been. Couldn’t say.
When I was a kid in the 70's, I used to go visit my grandparents, who lived in a trailer on the side of the mountain in Candler, outside of Asheville. I'm not sure if we ever even went into Asheville. Maybe a flea market or something. They later moved their trailer to Greer, SC, outside of Greenville, SC (home of Bob Jones University.) We would go into Greenville. Cute downtown, but filled with easily identifiable conservative Christians. Then we would drive up to Asheville, and it was a dump (then) filled with freaks. Of course, it's no longer the dump it once was.
Once did a drive through of downtown Charlotte, and saw no reason to get out of the car.
