Thomas Dolby show..... the opening band was sitting next to us, and they were just making all kinds of fun at Dolby's expense, I remember them skewering him during "I Scare Myself", singing it in mocking falsetto voices .... not cool in my book..... then, to put a cap on things, we looked up and there was Robert Downey, Jr coming down the steps.....  all in all, a memorable night for this young suburbanite....  :)

Yes I was there too; ran into Downey in the bathroom, as I recall.  The opening act was none other than .... A Flock of Seagulls

How were Primal Scream at that show?  The first time I got to see them live was post-Vanishing Point at Brixton Academy in 1998.  They put on a great show at Austin Psych Fest this year, despite missing Little Barrie.

I wouldn't call it a disaster. But there's a reason why this tour is legendary. From Wikipedia: "While touring in support of the album, relations within the band began to wear down. The band's American tour, when they supported Depeche Mode, was, in the words of manager Alex Nightingale, "the closest we've come to the band splitting up."" You could see that putting a bunch of junkie Scottish guys on a huge summer rock tour in the middle of the summer probably isn't going to make for a good situation. They thought they were the Rolling Stones circa "Exile on Main Street".  There was nothing remarkable about their performance. Depeche Mode's set felt rushed and abbreviated, but it was great and the only time I got to see them with Alan Wilder. Fletch wasn't on this tour (and really he contributes nothing musically anyway, so that was fine).

sooo jealous
ran across their 83 show at the club
https://archive.org/details/BlackFlagLive2-03-1983930ClubD.c

from another site about the 83 show
BLACK FLAG - LIVE @ THE 9:30 CLUB, WASHINGTON, DC

Legendary band + legendary venue + legendary personnel = a gig of great historical importance, that luckily happened to be captured on audiocassette for your post-show listening pleasure. At just about any point during their all-too-brief existence, the Flag were cranking out tunes that ran you over like a semi truck, taking the form of either furious hardcore punk rock or the more intricate psychedelic jams of their later years. If I'm remembering right, this show (February 2nd, 1983) went down about a month after the debut of Bill Stevenson on drums, before Dez and Chuck left the band later that spring - a brief yet powerful lineup, to say the least. It may have also marked Henry's first return to his hometown of D.C. following his cross-country indoctrination into the wild world of SST Records a year and a half prior. Regardless of what circumstances pushed this particular show over the edge into five-star territory, it's a beast of a recording from start to finish. Patched through the soundboard, I'd give it a B+ fidelity-wise, certainly not hard on the ears.
