I guess the US Tour has begun.. the first setlst is rather bizzaro... half of the show is from Seventeen seconds/The Top/Wish! 14 songs out of 29 from those albums... I really can't say they are my favorite Cure albums but I do like them....

It will be interesting to see how much they change it up..two new songs: It can never be the same (very promising Cure-ish title) and Setp into the Light (very unpromising unless it goes "No matter how hard you try to step into the light it will be completely dark..")

I agree, that is a nice setlist.  Burn!  That was the first song of theirs that I remember ever hearing, on the Crow soundtrack.  I am hoping to possibly snag a secondary market ticket for this.

I can't make a middle-of-the-week show at Merriweather so I going up for the first MSG show in NYC. I am hoping for more tunes from Pornography, which is probably my favorite LP of theirs. That and Seventeen Seconds are probably the 2 I listen to the most. The one tune I'd want to hear is "Cold"...I'm just glad Simon Gallup is still playing bass for them. One of my favorite bass players ever.

ha ha... 10 songs from disintegration last night.. basically they played two nights in New Orleans and gave two different shows!

The Cure is a live powerhouse/juggernaut that can pretty much play anything on any night...

Only 1 song from Wish, no songs from The Top and no songs from Seventeen Seconds...

Really happy to see they played "Burn" both nights. That song is a showstopper. Cannot wait for this tour, I just wish that I could see more than one date because the shows will each be vastly different. I love it when bands mix up the setlists radically. With a band like the Cure, it'll be great no matter what.

Thirty years ago, I would not have expected the Cure to become a live powerhouse that puts on Springsteen-length concerts with changed-up setlists each night. It really is impressive. Good for them.

I was at this Cure show nearly 29 years ago and I seem to remember it being around three hours in length.

That's crazy.
One niggling thing though -- who the fuck needs four encores anyway? I mean, ok if it's New Years Eve and you're playing Madison Square Garden, indulge yourself and the audience. But every single night you're playing three or four encores? Just pack it all into one awesome second set/encore instead of making everybody clap and scream and yowl over and over.

Yes, but...and good on you for seeing that show!

They've gotten a lot more flexible in that for about 10 years at least now they can play whatever.... which is pretty impressive when you have a catalog of so many songs to draw on...

I mean take the covering LPs concept.. a few years back- and they did not come to DC of course- they played a few shows where they covered THREE of their own albums in one concert!

The best thing going though is Robert Smith's voice... he's 57 but still retains that distinct voice...I don't know how to describe his voice but its one that I could easily have seen changing if he had been smoking/boozing it up for the past few decades....he hasn't...

I do worry about MPP curfew though.....

obviously part of the reason they can play that many songs and draw from so much is that Robert Smith must be one real exacting perfectionist band leader.... rehearsals must be a bitch.... I don't know... there's something to be said for the way he's doing things.. he realizes he doesn't have the new songs people want to hear so instead he compensates by giving a relatively decent priced/long ass show drawing from all eras etc..
