anybody listening, to the Richard simmons podcast, "missing Richard simmons"
Yes, intriguing...
I listened to this but I had some issues with it. It constantly made reference to rumours -- Richard is gay, he's dressing in drag -- but then said the issues were off-limits and they weren't going to discuss them. You don't get to cut the baby in half. Either don't mention them at all or look into them. You can't pretend you're a journalist by mentioning something everyone knows (RS is gay) or rumors (he's transitioning) and then refuse to look into them. Oh, so you're just intending to do a shitty job. Great.
The whole thing with the masseuse is a perfect example. Put in the context of a jilted ex-lover (which is what anyone with an IQ of 75 knows he is) it colors all their testimony. But our lame narrator refuses to address that.
I liked it more at the beginning and thinks it reveals that RS is actually really fascinating both as a person and a psychological case study but it got absolutely nowhere. It walked a weird line between being titillating with the rumors but not actually journalistic in its reporting on them.
