is it too late to change the name of the venue?

The Garage is not the image they are looking for... not to mention the name failed to catch on at a different venue in the 1990s....

I wonder if QOTSA will be $100 as well.  I checked the other cities but they didn't have prices.  It did look like Royal Blood was the opener in other cities.
Was wondering the same thing. Can't imagine they command what Lorde or Foos do. Royal Blood rules. I've missed them at Dc9 and 930 smh.

ah to be a fly in Seth's head....I mean do you sell 6000 tickets at $40 or do you sell  4000 at $60? or some other variant?

the venue's capacity flexibility means that price elasticity for tickets has an impact I guess..

Will a sold out Anthem feel as cramped as a sold out 9:30 Club?

I would think not simply because since the place is so much bigger it will take longer to clear it out in case of an emergency...

I find the Anthem-Merriweather boundary more intriguing.  Obviously the Anthem, despite its capacity being around 10,000 people less, will function as a Merriweather surrogate during the fall and winter, as well as a replacement for the shows Seth put on at Echostage.  LCD Soundsystem and St. Vincent could be Merriweather shows during the summer, no?  Conversely, if the Anthem was already open, maybe, say, Ryan Adams or Sigur Rós would have played there.  A calculus will surely develop to determine which venue truly suits an act better.

Most 9:30 shows seem obviously appropriate for the club.  There are exceptions, though.  Elbow in November could have played the Anthem.  Or any 9:30 show which easily sells out (Banks a month or so ago, the upcoming Cranberries gig [which seems perilously close to being canceled for health reasons]).

I'm thinking it'll destroy Echostage actually. Echostage will basically exist off of EDM's last gasp. I don't see it doing much business beyond that. The Replacements show will forever go down as one of the biggest disappointments I've seen because of venue and not because of the band's performance necessarily. But the days of rock shows there should be over.

The 9:30 will still be there for plenty of shows. You'll never see the Jesus and Mary Chain or Best Coast at Anthem. But bands like Death Cab for Cutie, the Pixies, the Prodigy, Future Islands, etc could probably attract respectable numbers there. Maybe not sellouts, but again...if ticket prices are right, they could do it. Or maybe bands will prefer to play at the 9:30 but they'll command a higher ticket price for a more intimate show. I could see that too.
