Pure insanity but as we know it’s likely to be bullshit

Confirmed. It’s bullshit. 50% tariffs NOT happening.

Really when Obama defined Trump as a bullshit artist he was dead on.

ok, new way to describe canadians...cheaters!

Trump: "Canada doesn't pay for military. They give us nothing. And they are the worst people to negotiate with of everybody ... they cheat."

the sad part is...the bad 'deal' we have...well it was signed by trump

I don’t know but Canada is pissing me off….

Like the absolute horror of being a part of America!! There is a way to say no firmly but politely. And why not see what the US offers?? Why not talk?

Having said that Trump’s style is very abrasive. Why can’t he nicer about it? Why use Canada as a punching bag? If I was president I would offer incentives and frame it completely different….not Canada should be the 51st state…that’s nuts…

Bottom line is US and Canada should become more closely linked and instead we are getting the opposite.

That’s not what he means by bad deal

He means we spend a shit ton on our military and they don’t spend much at all cause they don’t have to…they know they could always count on the US to have their back

His same argument with Western Europe.

He thinks we should get more for providing a military defense umbrella and instead we don’t get much in return.

It’s not entirely a crazy argument. We spend a shit ton on defense and when places like Canada and Western Europe don’t they have more money for other things….

I mean you ever been to Europe. The infrastructure is in way better shape than here. The trains, airports, highways…etc. it all looks spic and span. As Trump has said our airports look like shit compared to Europe!!

Its almost like they had to rebuild everything between 1945-1960 whereas we didn’t!

Holes?

First of all infrastructure investment is permanent. Take your airports. Your capacity might need to double every ten years! So you are permanently investing in the equivalent of a new airport. Then you have your maintenance. Have you guys taken that bridge to Manhattan by the Bronx??? It’s literally falling apart! You are lucky not to lose a car there! And you pay toll for privilege.

But let’s talk European development post WWII. Ever heard of the Marshall Plan?

Ever travel high speed rail in Europe? How do you think it compares to Amtrak? You say well we drive here…you think European highways suck??

The fact is their infrastructure is in better shape than ours and it’s reasonable to wonder if the fact they spend so relatively little on defense might have something to do with it.

trump went to wharton @ Upenn for undergrad, but apparently he skipped the part on deficits.  when you're at the top of an empire, a deficit is the goal: it means you're getting more than you giving, and others are financing your consumption.  instead he thinks it's some sort of injustice.

some day in the not to distant future, what's left of america will look back with nostalgia at the pre-trump era and wonder how they lost it all.  likely to go down as the all-time game-losing own-goal.
