Jules hasn't mentioned BMI since Obama was president....is there a connection?

Nathan Taylor @ntaylor963
"When assessing the risk of various nations is that 3% of Japanese are obese, while 40% of Americans are obese."

BMI < 30: reference risk
BMI 30-40: 4x risk
BMI > 40: 6x risk

Are Italians obese? I thought they ate the healthy Mediterranean diet?

these are some shocking stats
From 1999–2000 through 2017–2018, the prevalence of obesity increased from 30.5% to 42.4%,

Cigarettes add to your BMI as well.

One time the year after my dad died, I took my mom to Italy. It was her first time out of the country. We were at a street market in Florence, and she was dickering with a local over the price of a scarf. She offered him about half the price he was charging.

He replied, "Do you know how much I pay for your American cigarettes?"

And she retorted, "Well then kweeeeee-ut."

I don't think she got the scarf.

Italy boasts one of the lowest adulthood obesity rates in Europe [approximately 10% of the population]

not sure how smoking can add to BMI...where does smoke increase mass in your body...tumor cells in your lungs don't get calculated
now smoking and covid are bad bedfellows since it's a pulmonary disease

but extra credit awarded for very #onbrand post that included a wonderfully crafted vignette that had snark, but a touch of sentimentality

Well the first day of online school is cancelled because kids started spamming the site with porn and racist garbage and dick pics in their avatars. What a great country we live in. Instead of making the day up tomorrow (they have half their classes on Wed and half on Fri, so one 45 min session per week), they're just skipping it and starting Friday.

I attended an online seminar (from a third party) a couple weeks ago for work where the same kind of thing happened.

My employer banned the use of Zoom for these reasons (school not using Zoom, though the online seminar was.)

I was just joking. The real story:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6042712/

Smokers tend to weigh less than never smokers, while successful quitting leads to an increase in body weight. Because smokers and non-smokers may differ in genetic and environmental family background, we analysed data from twin pairs in which the co-twins differed by their smoking behaviour to evaluate if the association between smoking and body mass index (BMI) remains after controlling for family background.
