How would they know where to direct deposit my stimulus check if we end up paying each year? Would they mail it?

IRS plans tool that will let you track the money

The agency expects to release an online tool on its website by the end of the week that helps people track the status of their stimulus checks.

I'm not sure how much I'm getting...possibly $4,400 depending on how they count my oldest.

hopefully your plans for the check including paying back anything you owe the bank - because they're going to help themselves to your check anyways:

I’ll play devils advocate on this one — if my bank account is overdrawn a hundred dollars and I get a $1200 paycheck, obviously my bank account will display $1100 as the bank makes themselves whole. Why should this be different?

And furthermore, wouldn’t a bank have to create a mechanism to do this? Taking a negative balance (how they mark your debt) and adding the new monies to it is their process for balancing the books. How does a bank document that you have this $1200!amount in your account and also now a second line item for your debt? What banking system is set to do that? It’s de facto creating a second account for anyone with a debt.

They mean federal debt, or a court ordered collection. Taxes, child support,  etc.

That is not what I took away from Sweets article.

EDIT: Just re-read. It specifically says federal debts are exempt and this is about debts to a bank, debt collectors, and child support.
