is being speaker for a week worth all this, kevin?
might not even last a week:
Galen Metzger @GalenMetzger1
Remember that after the Speaker vote, the House has to approve a rules package - and moderate Rs have talked about teaming with dems to shoot down affirmative action for the Freedom Caucus.
Quite possible that the fight over rules goes on much longer than the fight over speaker
"affirmative action" in this case refers to guaranteed membership on certain committees, i.e. what McCarthy had to give to the MAGAts to get their votes. so, new scenario:
1. Enough MAGAts get on board with McCarthy and he's elected speaker.
2. House moves on to voting on the rules, which contain clauses by the non-MAGAt GOPers and the Dems to exclude some/all MAGAts from committees.
3. per McCarthy's giveaway, a/some/all MAGAts call for a vote of no-confidence in the Speaker
3. all 212 Dems, plus at least 6 MAGAts, vote "NEXT!"
4. we're right back where we are now, except no Kevin. eventually someone emerges with the gavel.
5. go back to step 1.
how are those clowns going to pass anything over the next 2 years. other than gas?
