Terrible songs you can't get out of your head
« on: February 07, 2024, 09:24:13 am »
Ever since the Grammy's, I can't get that terrible Billy Joel song our of my head. Not the instantly forgettable new song that took him (with a co-writer) 30 years, three wives, and two families later to write...but the old "classic" that everyone loves..."You May Be Right."

Anyone have a terrible song in their head that want to have swapped out for mine?

I'd argue that Billy Joel has written far, far worse songs than "You May Be Right". Is it an abomination? I'd argue that "We Didn't Start The Fire" or "The Longest Time" are atrocities that should be banished into a black hole. Anything remotely awful that I abhor (pretty much anything from the "Cocktail" soundtrack, Starship, etc.) that I accidentally hear usually means my brain gets a cleanse with "Bazooka Joe" by Big Black, "Nervous Breakdown" by Black Flag or "Green Light" by Sonic Youth.

I would agree that You May BE Right is one of his less offensive songs (I remember actually liking it in 8th grade, when our bus driver would play the Glass Houses cassette every day on the one hour drive to school. But that was when I was 13, and before I discovered anything great from 1980 or before.)

Thank you for replacing it in my head with some much worse Billy Joel songs!

I randomly get Christmas songs in my head all year long, but I unironically love Christmas songs, so I never mind.

Usually it's random, out of left field songs...so random I almost have no idea why they pop into my head.  But thanks to this thread and me racking my brain to find a song, it forced that awful 4 Non Blondes song into my brain.  Thanks!

This is easily one of my top 3 most-hated songs of all-time.

I think the ones that throw me into a blind rage are "Run-Around" by Blues Traveler, "Kokomo" by the Beach Boys, and "Don't Worry Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin. But "Ants Marching" by Dave Matthews and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" are serious contenders too. I guess that's my top 5.

This is a solid list. I (thankfully) cannot say I have heard Kokomo is twenty years but the mere thought of it rockets it very high up my list.

I know it is inferior Beach Boys but I wouldn't put Kokomo on that level.

How about These Dreams by Heart (who have a handful of excellent dongs?)

Vengaboys - We Like To Party

This is the worst, greatest song of all time. Oh no, it's now in my head . . . must not open Spotify.

Damn, too late.

Admittedly, I was unaware the members of Heart were Trannys.

Admittedly, this used to be a song I sung to my kids at bedtime... Sorry!

Damn you I don’t think I’ve ever heard this song in its entirety before today and it’s pure ear candy
