this could be good news!

Stephen Miller, The White House deputy chief of staff has suggested that Americans should be paid reparations "for the damages inflicted by mass migration."

So, do I just publish my bank account info and the details on how I was damaged on X in order to receive said reparations?

who is the payor in this fantasy?  central and south american countries?  the developing world, as a collective?

maybe the US imposes "reparation tariffs" on countries in proportion to what percentage of immigrants their nationals represent?!?  (which would be peak trump: charge a tariff, which is a tax on americans, so that the collected funds can be redistributed directly to americans)

DOGE...just crooks with a different name

https://krebsonsecurity.com/2025/04/whistleblower-doge-siphoned-nlrb-case-data/
"A security architect with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) alleges that employees from Elon Musk‘s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) transferred gigabytes of sensitive data from agency case files in early March, using short-lived accounts configured to leave few traces of network activity. The NLRB whistleblower said the unusual large data outflows coincided with multiple blocked login attempts from an Internet address in Russia that tried to use valid credentials for a newly-created DOGE user account."

The backstory is that both Amazon and Musk’s SpaceX have been suing the NLRB over complaints the agency filed in disputes about workers’ rights and union organizing, arguing that the NLRB’s very existence is unconstitutional. On March 5, a U.S. appeals court unanimously rejected Musk’s claim that the NLRB’s structure somehow violates the Constitution.

hmm...maybe getting the job as the head of VOA wasn't actually that great

In a court hearing Thursday, the government argued President Trump had not shut down VOA but instead had only temporarily "paused" its operations, allowing it to sidestep normal administrative procedures while considering what to do with parent agency USAGM.

I’m sure most are concerned that this effort is to reverse engineer his vax/autism theory

It is good to see a major focus on this

Although it sounds like they are not doing new studies, just making it easier to access a bunch of disparate data that could help uncover a breakthrough

Some of the things he said a few days ago about people on the spectrum are really offensive - at least to me- and potentially dangerous.

It’s cause for grave concern when you enter the conversation with statements about people on the autism spectrum suffering an illness or it being something that is bad caused by something we are doing wrong.

We simply don’t know enough about it or the human experience to make these assertions but if we go into studies with the presupposition that being on the spectrum is bad we could enable ghastly policies to stamp out “imperfect or differing life.” It’s the whole range of human experience that has made our life possible. We must not forget our humanity.

No no no. This is entirely the wrong take. Wakefield manufactured the idea that vaccines cause autism to elevate his career and make money. When he was discovered, he confessed that it was all made up and he lost his license to practice medicine. There is literally no evidence at all to support this idea. It is proven. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a nutjob.

There is no reason to look into this, other than to perpetuate the fraud. These people are either being duped, or they're complicit in the con.

Its offensive to anyone whose ever met an autistic person -- he literally said they were incapable of love or contributing to society (pay taxes), which is borderline eugenic.

My working theory is the only autistic person he's ever met is Elon and he assumes because no one loves him and he doesn't pay taxes but it really isn't true across the board.

trump, and by extension his admin, is all about testing the waters and sending up trial balloons.  will americans object when we deport "illegal aliens"?  what about "alien criminals"?  what about "domestic criminals"?  what about "domestic enemies", as defined by trump - let's deport them too!

"first they came for the autistic, but i said nothing..."

HOT TAKE ALERT

Autism is a very sensitive issue, as the vast majority of those impacted are parents who are simply seeking solutions or answers. From what I've heard and read, we don't have many concise, bumper-sticker-length responses

The Fraud
This kind of situation is ripe for snake-oil salesmen, as desperate parents may throw piles of money at the possibility that this shyster might be right. This is what we need to keep an eye on.
Sadly, politicians have decided to jump in here and 'just asking questions' is definitely making matters worse (because they don't want a solution, they just want votes so they can have power)

We should demand evidence backed by rigorous testing, studies, and research.

At the same time, it's just hubris to think that we know all scientific facts in 2025. Just consider the things we thought were good ideas 50-100 years ago.

but if we go into studies with the presupposition that being on the spectrum is bad we could enable ghastly policies to stamp out “imperfect or differing life.”
You are not wrong and this is the worst possible way to do science
I hope we keep our humanity on this topic, but I feel like we won't, and corporations will be looking at the P&L more than ethics

There are some who are completely disabled from the impacts of Autism and it's not an insignificant number
I would hope that at some point we are able to mitigate issues for people who suffer with these extreme conditions

whether this stems from something environmental or genetic...that is really key here
or could be both, it's environmental to the parent that has an impact on the genes passed to their children
and maybe it's neither and just a case of natural selection/gene mutation?

we just don't know, (and if we do, can someone point me to the research, I'm more than happy to be proven wrong)

Paradoxically- since it’s a critically important issue in my life because my kids are on the spectrum and I have come to believe so was my father - I really have nothing else to say.

Is this why my wife often speculates that I have autism?
