YOUR favorite albums of 2024
« on: December 09, 2024, 12:03:57 pm »
Gone are the days where Kilsaly would give us 100 albums by bands we've never hear of, but hopefully y'all can at least come up with a few. In honor or Matt Gaetz, here are my favorite 17 albums of the year, in no particular order. I'll just list the artist, as none of these artists had more than one release in 2024.

Hurray for the Riff Raff
Hinds
Beebadoobie
The Last Dinner Party
Phosphorescent
Remi Wolf
L'Imperatrice
Lagos Thugs
Kacey Musgraves
Leon Bridges
Maggie Rogers
The Cure
Joan as Police Woman
Ezra Collective
Thee Sacred Souls
Aaron Frazer
Nada Surf

Oh, I forgot Jessica Pratt. But that would take me to 18 and ruin the Matt Gaetz dedication.

Shit, forgot about this. This might knock Waxahatchee out of my top 10.

Ah, forgot the Godspeed record was this year too!  That might change my list...maybe drop the MJ Lenderman or Waxahatchee?

Here is a quick ranking of the albums I acquired in some format with actual money and these are what I listen to when the world is getting me down...

Cliff Hillis & Dennis Schocket - Pop, Girls,Etc.
Bad Moves - Wearing Out The Refrain
Elephant Stone - Back Into The Dream
The Eggmen Whoooooo! -Fuzzy Eggs, Please
Jack White - No Name
Shadow Show - Fantasy Now!
Britti - Hello, I'm Britti
Bacchae - Next Time
The Blackburn = S/T
HiFi Sean and David McAlmont - Daylight
Hamish Hawk - A Firmer Hand
Sy Smith - Until We Meet Again
Jon Muq - Flying Away
Ducks Ltd - Harm's Way
The Feeling - San Vito
Amythyst Khan - Still & Bright
Whitelands - Night-bound Eyes Are Blind To The Day
James - Yummy
Heaven Man - As One
Too Many Zooz - Retail Therapy

I may or may not spent funds on the 90s super duo everyone has likely forgotten about by now...

Honorable mentions go to Ekko Astral who I still feel ambivalent  about, Fightmilk, 2nd Grade, Pernnial,  Miscellen and The Tyde.

Lots of stuff on my wish lists of course

Is anyone else simply shocked that Kosmo doesn't have Charlie xxx on his list?

the only Charli XCX I've been exposed to was "I'm With The Band: Nasty Cherry" the TV series where she set about creating a all girl rock band and that only because I was looking up what one of the new members of James had done prior to joining them.  and i will admit to listening some to Chappell Roan.

I will personally pay Kosmo's transportation costs to Barclays in May plus the cost of one ticket to Charli XCX with me if he writes about the experience for the forum. He must stay for the entire show.

as i sit here listening to Kylie's latest I don't understand why anyone wouldn't think I would enjoy Charli XCX, it's just I have carved out time out of "busy" schedule to listen... i enjoy overblown pop productions as much as the next person, except for (and this will break sidethingamgig's heart) The Last Dinner Party. that one was way to much even for me...
