Afghan Whigs...though I'm happy that Greg, John and Rick are recording some new tracks this fall for the forthcoming best of disc.

Agree on Superdrag, I just watched the videos for "Sucked Out" and "Destination Ursa Major" on YouTube yesterday.

Me too!!!

 Swervedriver
 Slowdive
 My Bloody Valentine
*House Of Love (even though their last release was lame)
 January
 Hawkwind w/ Robert Calvert
 Lyca Sleep

...and I know there's tons more.

*A friend of mine put on a reunited House Of Love show in London earlier in the year and I heard it was incredibly good. Too bad it was only a one-off kind of deal.    :(

I actually didn't mind the last House of Love record. There were some really good songs on it like "Kit Carter"...unless you're thinking of the last studio LP they did before that (which I never even heard).

I kind of like it too but it's not up to the higher standards of their earlier releases and a lot of other people were let down with it. Guess you and I are in the same camp with that.

I'm still dying to hear if anyone saw Rob Dickenson when he played the State Theatre a month ago. Really wanted to go to that show but couldn't make it. Another dip in previous releases but I do still like some of his solo work. But I miss all of those shimmering guitars so much!

You could put Richard Ashcroft in that same category. Nothing like his former self but still has some enjoyable moments if you can let yourself move on.

i went, and it was excellent. i caught about half of bruce dickinson's cousin's set, and he sounded terrific; just him solo with a guitar. i recall that he played a little harmonica, too. closed with "crank" and played a few other catherine wheel songs, and i'm sure i missed a couple more. the church were also great that night, and dickinson joined them for a couple of songs. i've always felt the church were underrated, and they still make decent records and put on solid shows. marty wilson-piper definitely does not get the credit he deserves for his guitar playing.

I miss them too. I think I read somewhere that they're going to be starting the ship up again. I'll bet they're playing in DC within the next 1-2 years. That said, it won't be the classic line-up of William, Jim, Douglas and Bobby, which means it'll be less crucial.

After seeing We Jam Econo again, the Minutemen and D. Boon in particular come leaping to mind.

Elliott Smith. I was only into him for a year or so before his death, but during that year, I think I listened to some of his music close to every day.  I've since moved out of that phase of exceedingly depressing music, but I still find it incredibly beautiful and moving and amazing.  Ever time I listen to it, it never fails to blow my mind.
