There is no point just naming bands no-one likes.

I have never met a Korn fan, let alone a fan of any of those other bands.......

Seems like people either really love or hate Belle and Sebastian too. There's really no fine line there...you either like what they do or you don't. Personally, I think they're great.

I think back in high school it was really a battle of who liked metal vs. who liked hip-hop/rap. Then there was me, the lone freak who hated both and listened to the Pixies, the Stone Roses, Sugar, the Charlatans UK, etc. and got a ton of shit for it. I will never forget that there was a big angry fight one day about Vanilla Ice vs. 3rd Bass. Ha! I also remember the arguments that kids got into that were into Metallica and Megadeth vs. the kids into Black Sabbath. Then there was me...going to see the Jesus and Mary Chain w/Curve and Spiritualized. Sigh, those were fun days.

Really, you think people proactively dislike late R.E.M.?  I think it's more a matter of thinking they no longer matter, "it's over," they're just mediochre.  Not that I agree, but I haven't met the person who's vehement in hating those later albums...

See, people say they hate Britpop, but likely have differing definitions of what is now an ever expanding descriptive 'genre.'

Radiohead, yes; britpop, I don't think so....

Hmmmm, good topic. I know I express strong opinions, but the reality is I just like to overstate my point to get a bite out of you all.

 HOWEVER!

Bands/performers I absolutely can not stand to listen to.

 REM (early/recent, it doesn't matter)
 Aerosmith
 Van Halen
 Nirvana
 Any rap or hip-hop
 most other heavy metal.

Bands/performers I think you must be a complete moron if don't absolutely love.

 Bowie
 Beautiful South
 Waterboys
 Pogues

Bands/performers I love but can understand why they wouldn't be everyones cuppa tea.
 Smiths
 BDB
 Tom Waits

I'm sure there's more for each list, but I'm busy at work so my mind is all over the place at the mo'

(third edit in two minutes...can't be THAT busy!)

Bands/performers I can't stand but can understand why some would.

 Foofighters
 Metallica
 Bruce Springboard...(good lyrics)

I'm finally going to get some Beautiful South from a friend and check 'em out.  Will report back in...hell, in months with all I've got to listen to!

I don't understand how everyone doesn't love a bunch of bands I listen to....I'll listen to a perfect Jellyfish or Sloan song and think, "this is perfect."

I appreciate that....though there are some FF songs I think are so blissful (not all, though, for everyone).

I don't like The Boss or the Stones, but I understand why folks love them.  The Dead or Phish -- that I just don't get at all (though I do respect the Dead; however, their hardcore fans make me crazy).

Skeeter, just look the other way...   :D

speaking of divisive (and I know this topic has been done to death) but I just paid $41.50 for $24 worth of tickets to Sleater Kinney at the Recher Theatre - damn

Other than Nirvana and early REM, I hate the bands on your hate list. I  like the bands on your cuppa tea list and hate the bands on your moron list.

I guess that makes me a suicidal, bisexual, teabag loving moron.

We got tickets at the Recher box office, and they were $2 service charge each. And even worse, we got tickets at the Birchmere AT THE DOOR for a show Saturday night, and paid $3 service fee each.

Really makes me appreciate the Black Cat offering advance tickets with no service fee.
