Talking Heads
 Pink Floyd
 Pavement

and to weigh in with a little support for the Dead â?? ok, I know I'm a pigeonholed indie kid who should have no patience for a jam band BUT I don't have ADD and I love jazz so I've found myself with an honest-to-god collection of Dead shows...a truly great band.  there, I said it.

Sure, Stop Making Sense was greatness when it came out, but seems like you'd have to be stuck in a time warp to still like it. It's just not timeless, classic music.

i have to disagree. i think most people's beef are not with the band, but with bono.

 however, to continue the topic:

 bob dylan

 i personally cannot stand him.

i'd also add the entire scene that has come out of scandanavia and australia in the last couple years. that sort of post-punk crap.

Nah, I have to agree with the U2 post. People tend to either hate them or love them. Of course, there are those who love the early U2 but find the later U2 a little insipid. And yes, then there are those who hate U2 for Bono, and all that goes with that. Basically, for all of the same reasons some people hate Coldplay.

Me, I hate U2 but like Coldplay.

In my case, I hate U2's music so much that I haven't been interested to read about any of the four musicians. However, if Bono works on  environmental and human rights issues as I have sometimes heard, then he has all my respect. It is their music that I can't stand.

for me, vice versa.  U2, although I don't particularily love them, are an unquestionably important band (and War is a great album).  Coldplay, on the other hand, are just sort of boring â?? not, I don't think, a common reason to hate U2.

And Lily, have you really listened to Dylan?  Most of his best work is just simple folk, or rock and roll with strikingly brilliant lyrics.  I mean, what's not to like about Like A Rolling Stone?

U2's "Boy" through "The Joshua Tree" are fantastic albums and I still listen to them.  Bono, no Bono, whatever.  There's great music there....
