Oddly, that's exactly why I don't like U2. Actually, that was why I always disliked U2. It was the pompous Bononess and, in my opinion, their over-rateness that made it advance to hate.

fair enough.  still don't see how coldplay can be enthralling if U2 is worthy of the big yawn, though...

What can I say? That's why I included the "    " in my original post.

U2 IMHO went downhill with the release of "Live at Red Rocks" and recovered a bit with Acthung Baby.  LARR marks the point where the band become Bono & U2.  AB, Zoopra, and Pop all get dismissed by "hardcore" U2 fans because they don't sound like Joshua Tree.  Shame on U2 for wanting to experiment a little, try a different sound. I'm sure even the Edge was getting tired of his guitar sound.  Of course the last record was hearled as a return to the Joshua Tree, which of course meant is dull as dishwater....  "like a mole digging in a hole"

i think u2 suffers from over exposure. strokes and white stripes too. especially the 'stripes, i like their music, but i want to punch jack white these days. why anyone would take the effort to diss the beautiful south is beyond me.

Radiohead, yes; britpop, I don't think so.... [/b]
Good point.  So many people have differing concepts of what entails "Brit Pop".  To some, it's basically all British alternative from the 80s up till now; others see it as something more specific to the 90s that refer to the more commerical U.K. alt stuff (Oasis & Charlatans for example), and then some people lump all 90s & 21st century U.K. alt/indie under the "Brit Pop" category (so by that rationale, The Delgados would also be Brit Pop).  It does seem strange that Oasis & Radiohead would be considered part of the same genre---You'd be hard pressed to find two bands that are more further apart...

Anyway, I think The Smiths are quite a polarizing band.  I've only met people who have strong feelings either way---nobody just says they were "okay."
