The AFI has released their Top 100 film quotes, with "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" at the top. Two from Marlon "Cotton Balls" Brando ("I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse," and "I coulda been a contender") follow in the 2 and 3 spots, respectively.
Judy Garland appeared in the No. 4 position with "Hey, you fucking dog, where the fuck are we?" and Bogart's "Here's looking at you, kid" was No.5.
Speaking about the Rhett Butler line, Bob Gazzale, producer of Tuesday's special Top 100 show, said, "Frankly, it has become kind of the catch phrase of catch phrases. It's used in so many different ways. Who hasn't been in a relationship where you really give it your all, whether you're a man or a woman, and finally get to the point where you surrender and take back control of the situation with a simple line from the 1930s?"
I was shocked that so many of what I would consider "classic" quotes didn't make the cut. Hardly a day goes by that I don't mutter one or more of my favorites. For example, who could forget...
