Palm or Windows?
I personally have always hated the Windows mobile OS.  I couldn't tell you a thing about what's out there hardware wise from Palm these days.  I've been using a Treo for 2 years and haven't thought of getting anything else.  If you don't want to carry phone and a pda that's what I'd recommend.

Thanks for the sensible reply....Call me wild and crazy but I like my mobile phone to, well, be able to make and receive phone calls, and not much else really. You really need to carry your phone with you at all times to get the full benefit, but with the PDA I got in the habit of putting it in my desk drawer at work and could grab it as needed then bring it home with me and sync up so I can do follow-ups on my day off etc.

Also if I'm going for a bike ride I don't want to have to bring my PDA along in case I need to make a phone call.

I'm all for technology but don't believe in buying stuff I'll never use...that's why I have no interest in MP3'S, I have no need to be walking around with several thousand songs in my pocket.

Are you looking for one to use as a mobile phone too or just organize your data?

I just traded in my Blackberry for the a Motorola Q and, other than a very low battery life, I have very few complaints about it.  It's very impressive.

The Q is actually thinner than my Razr, about 3/4 inch longer, and a half an inch wider.  It really does travel nicely.

Sadly I'll probably have to ditch my Treo soon and go blackberry....my new job (start on jan 02) gives them to everyone and I'm not really a two phone kind of guy so.....Wanna buy my Treo???

Seriously though, if you just want something to store your address book and calendar in, anything running a Palm OS will do.

You know what would be really hip, trendy and would sell like hotscakes?  If there was a way to somehow combine Green Tea with Blackberry.  It would be a huge hit.  Or Green Tea with Bluetooth.  I'd buy that for a dollar.  Everyone would want it.  People would line up around the block to buy one.

My coworker and I have this debate all the time.  I think we've agreed after each trying every device out there, that the Treo/Palm/Mobile OS all do a lot of things, but don't do anything great.  They do a lot of things like internet, phone calls, editing documents, and storage well, but aren't great at anything.  We both believe that the Blackberry is Great at email, but pales in internet and document editing, and is about the same at making calls.  So it all depends on what you use your device for.  Heavy email users should all opt for Blackberry's.

At the very least I'll have a new toy to play with, which is always fun for me.  I'll miss Vindigo though.  At least AvantGo just released a beta for Blackberry.

I knew I was gear dork when I first heard the Interpol song "PDA" and thought they were talking about a palm pilot.

That's kind of my thought on the Q - I have a new toy to play with.

 As for Vindigo:

 Google Maps: http://www.google.com/gmm/index.html
 Google SMS: http://www.google.com/intl/en_us/mobile/sms/

Both are free and work with the Blackberry OS.
