there's a short review of franz ferdinand's album in today's weekend. . i'll post it if anyone wants to read it, but i have to write this. . it's the last sentence of the review after stating that FF is in the middle of glasgow's music movement (between belle and sebastian and mogwai):  "indeed, franz ferdinand just might turn out to be the Scottish Roxy Music."

can't wait for mankie's comment on this.

Anyone meeting up pre-show?

I'm planning on stopping by Polly's before heading over. Um, I'll be the black chick eating a hamburger and drinking beer.  :)

Franz Ferdinand is going to be HUGE.  Be glad we all got to see at the 9:30 club, because the venues are only going to get bigger and more impersonal. The band was clearly having fun on stage with natural rock star moves to boot.  Speaking of boots, fab shoes all around.  Well I'm off to order some EPs...

what'd they play for the encore? I had to leave early.

show pet peeve: people who think jumping up and down is somehow dancing. it's not, sorry. there was one guy in front of me doing that for awhile and I thought he was going to knock me down. his friend was pretty crazy too. I think I was in the people who can't dance section. which is pretty fitting, actually.

Fan-fuckin-tastic show tonight! So much energy on stage and within the crowd (see, DC crowds can dance if they want to!). Nick was getting down while playing keyboard. Can't wait for the DVD!

Built speed as the night progressed (short night at that... but).  The two opening songs were by far my least favorite on the album... after that things go rolling.  But you know, it's only rock and roll.  Nothing new here (there).  I liked the show, but whether or not they become "huge" is just a matter of how they are marketed.  So I couldn't care less.  They were good.  Would I rank them in the top ten bands I've seen live?... No.

what a fantastic show!! i thought sons and daughters were really great - it didn't hurt that their vocalist was an insanely gorgeous scotsman   ;)  - pretty reminiscient of FF but whatever. does anyone know where i can get some cd's of theirs?

i loved FF's set - it was tight, energetic, and made me want to shake my ass. dc people DO dance if they 1) try to 2) have enough drinks in 'em + great music or 3) everyone else around them is, so they have to join in. there was some crazy woman in front of me - literally running in place the entire show - but she was having a great time so i guess all the power to her.

and yes - jumping up and down is NOT dancing, but it's better than just standing around in some cases.

Agree on Sons and Daughters, they were really great. After seeing them last night, I remember hearing a couple of their songs on 97x, but not knowing the band's name.

I just looked up their name on Amazon.com and it seems a lot of folks who bought Franz Ferdinand are also buying their stuff.

The music was excellent but, as brennser pointed out after the show, the act seemed a bit "staged" at times.

I think I would have preferred to see them on a night when they weren't taping a DVD.  But it was still a good time. 7 out of 10.

I thought they were good - great songs, good attitude but I did find myself wondering why I wasn't being moved more by the whole experience - in a way I think the DVD filming made both the band and the crowd a little self conscious - there was lots of mugging for the camera and people cheering louder when they thought the camera was on them...I dunno....maybe I'm a curmudgeon, or maybe after seeing Ted Leo and Mclusky the previous two nights they had a lot to live up to...

kosmos right though - they're gonna be huge

 thanks for the vids bungle

sadly, i think they next time they'll swing back into dc it will be for the hfs nutcracker or hstival...kosmo's right, no more 930 club atmosphere for them again. they've gone the route of mtv darlings. *sigh*
