The hour they made us wait was obnoxious but once they did go on, it was phenomenal.

Yeah.
They flew through the albums in under 75 minutes.

I wouldn't have been as annoyed with the delay if it didn't cause me to miss the last couple songs in the first encore and all of the second in order to catch my ride home.

Agreed. I left right before the encores. Too early a day today, and I busted my ass to get there by 9. I would have loved to stay, but as it was I barely got 6 hours of sleep. That's the thing about DC on a week night. A lot of us actually have to schedule shows in. That being said, I was extremely happy with the quality of that performance and it was well worth the effort to go. The sound was huge. It reminded me of live Echo recordings from the early 80's.

According to a tweet from this morning:

Early show w/ @tedleo & Drew O'Doherty on Backstage Sat. has long been sold out. Sets at 8:00 & 9:00, then a free DJ set by Alec Mackaye!

fun and strong show, as usual. don't think he's capable of a bad show.

I worked the show. Sorry if it was noisy where you were, the audience was a bit too chatty :(

seriously.  security came over to my section of the balcony to settle a squabble between one group of patrons trying to enjoy the show, and the ones behind them who wouldn't shut the f*ck up.  it really was a chatty crowd, constant buzz of talk throughout the night.  sorry we didn't a chance to meet up - hopefully next time.

i was relly impressed by the national.  beautiful room, great service, nice beer selection (loved the magic hat vinyl)... i liked.  made up for an average show and below-average crowd. ;D
