sad to have missed the last body cop show. they were easily my favorite dc band of the past couple years.

azaghal, what did you think of the trimble show?

I agree with the consensus on the Feelies.  Great, great show.

I thought it was excellent. His voice has held up fairly well and the girl singing with him did a great job at filling the higher notes that he couldn't hit out. The Crippled Dog stuff is way more rocking than I had thought it would be which was a nice surprise. His band is really tight, too. His older psych stuff was beautiful. I guess they have been playing as a unit for a while now.

Bodycop slayed. Sucks they broke up! I really liked that opening band Sacrum too.

Isn't Ian Matthews supposed to play Velvet sometime in the future? Maybe that can make up for me missing Bobb Trimble.

beirut/sharon van etten/yellow ostrich @ mccarren park - past fri

apart from double rainbows which seemed to be the talk at the beginning - all the bands were awesome. had no clue sharon van etten had such a strong voice and aaron desner performing the last 3 songs with her was a total bonus.

beirut also played a great set - despite what some posted on BV.

As of right now, yes.  However, I don't think the Velvet is the right place for Matthews.  It was when I was running it, but not anymore.  The owner is more concerned with pumping loud DJ bullshit than giving respect to a quiet songwriting legend.  I looked into moving it to Iota or Jammin' Java but neither was available, so I might end up moving it to a house show somewhere.  Stay tuned...

The DJ noise has gotten way out of hand. I was concerned about it interfering with Bobb Trimble but his band was loud enough to overcome it.

I just randomly looked up Fucked Up's website to see if they'll be touring any time soon and was absolutely delighted to discover they're playing the RnR Hotel next Monday.
