10:20, 11:15, 12:15 roughly.
Comet has definitely become one of my favorite area venues and Sasha has been doing an incredible job w/ the bookings.
Deathfix/Soccer Team @ Comet on Friday.

Not that familiar with Comet.  Do they have fairly standard set times?  3 bands with a listed time of 10:00.  When would you expect the bands to play?  Thx.

Thanks. I never had a complaint about the Black Cat itself. It was specifically about the Red Room, and the non-show attending hipster crowd. Kind of like the d-bags that go to the upstairs part of RNR Hotel, or the Clarendon yuppies who pay to get into Iota for a place to hang out and talk, rather than seeing the band.

Plenty of places nearby now to get a good beer if i so choose, so that's no longer a factor.

this is easily the worst true stereotype of a dc crowd seeing a show.

I think it's gotten worse now that IOTA has expanded.  Especially on a Friday night.

Was not so bad last time I was there for David Kilgour.

Storm canceled my two most looked-forward to shows this fall (Future of the Left and Sic Alps/Lorelei/Foul Swoops). :( Guess I've got Trophy Wife/Noon:30 at Comet on Friday to look forward to.

Wed 10/31 - Crooked Fingers @ RNRH (likely)
Thu 11/1 - Brandi Carlile @ Lyric in Baltimore
Fri 11/2 - Dethklok/Machine Head @ Fillmore SS
Sat 11/3 - King Giant @ Empire
Sun 11/4 - Maserati/Tone @ Black Cat (possible)

Who says concerts slow down as fall turns into winter?!

everytype of people do this everywhere in everytown for anyshow.  get away from the home nest more, and stop blaming the town/types of people.  they all suck at what they do.

I think it depends on the venue.  IOTA definitely looks/feels like an "after work hangout bar", where the 9:30, Black Cat, etc., really feel more like music venues-- and so the crowd tends to act accordingly. Sure, we've all been to plenty of shows at the Cat or 9:30 where people in the audience were talking, but they tend to segregate more, so the talkers end up in the back, vs. IOTA where it can be almost impossible to hear the band unless you're right up under the stage.  (Exception: Bowerbirds at the Black Cat earlier this year, where the yakking was so bad I almost left early.)

But no, IOTA is certainly not the only venue with this problem, nor is Clarendon the only neighborhood where people wander in to a bar after work on a Friday and talk loudly over the band.
