This week will be pretty lite for me:
Friday - Matmos at Artscape, then heading to Ratscape to see Raindeer, Arboretum, and Flying Eyes
Saturday - Depends on when i get back from a day of boating.  If I am back early enough I will try to catch Kurt Vile and Swirlies at 930 Club.

Yo La Tengo have had a faithful following for almost 30 years because of the press. Got it.

Anyway, enough troll feeding.

Bunch of maybes for me this week, too.

Tuesday: Ian McColm, Tag Cloud and others at Dr. Clock's Nowhere Bar
Friday: Artscape/Ratscape
Saturday: Kurt Vile/Swirlies.

Tuesday and Saturday are almost definite. Killsaly, I will get back to you about Friday.

Can I just say that it's too bad more audiences aren't like the B&S one.. A one point someone caught up in the moment slightly brushed up against me while dancing, and immediately apologized.  I also don't remember late comers trying to barge past me toget up front.

Of course when the pit did break out, it got so out of control, even thatguy wasseen crowd surfing.. it was totally bananas

Ha ha ha...their cover of "Caught in a Mosh" made my night.

It really was a cordial and fun audience. I know so many people going to New Order I think that'll likely be one giant dance party.

Oh, and the B&S was by far one of the most sexually ambiguous audiences I've seen in a while. I'm surprised it didn't turn into an orgy afterwards.

such unbelievable chemistry among the members of Savages...they're also fun to watch (esp. the drummer). I bet they will sound better at a club the size of 930.

there is a review and photos on BYT:

dcist review:

Looks like DC did not get the 10-minute song "Fuckers"... ehhh, that's like the best part of the show :)

classic negotiation tactic by seth: you can play at the club this fall, but you have to promise to dick the blowtel over and not play your best song.

That DCIst review hits on what bugs me about this band. They are too polished/professional/business-like for a band at this level. They even have specific roles to play in interviews. Basically a boyband for the indie-rock set. I have heard nothing but praise heaped on their live show and am not willing to totally write them off until after I see them but that album honestly doesn't warrant more than a couple listens IMO. The last "mean business in every sense of the word" line in that review sums it up nicely. There are obvious forces at play other than the band here churning pre-album hype since roughly before CMJ last year and providing them with press not afforded to 99.99999% of bands as young as they are. Bands like Wax Idols and Wetdog have been doing a similar thing for years with better, catchier songs now and are deserving of the same amount of attention (more if you ask me) and have gotten next to none. None at all as far as Wetdog is concerned.

/end Savages rant

Hopefully will get outta work in time to see the show at the Cellar Door Tuesday.

I will be at a hippie jam band festival called Under The Stars Fest this weekend because its right down the street from my house.

I will be leaving it to go out to the Ottobar to see Cannibal Ox on Saturday night. Hopefully they don't last minute cancel!

Maybe will hit Artscape Sunday to see The Flying Eyes. If you have not seen these guys quit sleeping on them!

Az - you are aware that it's frowned upon here, to disparage  a popular band while at the same time praise an unpopular band.
