Jeff the Brotherhood, Diarrhea Planet, and Wish List - Rock & Roll Hotel

oh yeah, this is a good pairing

Really hoping I can make this one.  I haven't been to RnR Hotel in ages - are the posted schedules at all reliable?

In this case Diarrhea at 10, Jeff at 11:30...

thx,
Matts

Placebo ruled.
By ruled I meant: played a 20 song set that featured a good combination of new and old songs; an enthusiastic crowd of fans; good sound (though a teeny bit heavy on the bass, not the best that I have heard the Fillmore sound, but still good); not all of the way sold out, but far from empty, I had room to breathe; 13 (in bold below) of the songs blew me away and the other 7 were good); played as a six member band instead of just the three members, so nothing had to be left out or played via backing tracks on any of the songs; and they had a good light show.

It was a great night, and definitely lived up to my expectations as a long time fan (since 1998).

Setlist:
        B3
        For What It's Worth
        Loud Like Love
        Every You Every Me
        Scene of the Crime
        A Million Little Pieces
        Twenty Years
        Too Many Friends
        Rob the Bank
        Purify
        One of a Kind
        Exit Wounds
Meds (the beginning of this was a cool stripped down version)
        Song to Say Goodbye
        Special K
        The Bitter End

        Encore:
        Begin the End
Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)
        (Kate Bush cover)
        Post Blue
        Infra-red

That sounds cool. I'm so sick of bands going minimal on-stage and using tapes. The Raveonettes did that last week and it was so lame. What made it even more glaringly shitty is that the last time I saw them, many years ago, they had a big band with them, with four guitar players. So the sound was huge and visceral. This recent show was the guy on guitar and the woman on bass, but nothing she "played" corresponded with what came out of the speaker. And the most interesting guitar parts came from the tapes. I just can't get with that.

So I'm glad Placebo went the other direction. I might've gone to this if it hadn't been in Silver Spring.

It was definitely good to hear the full sound; drummer, 3 guitarists with Brian also singing and one of the guitarists doing backup vocals, bass player (who also did synths on some songs), and a keyboard player who also did back up vocals and electric violin.

What is wrong with Silver Spring?  Too far?

Also, for some reason the bass player was behind one of the stacks of amps.  You could see him, but he was on the same area that the drummer was, and if you were on the left of the crowd, you might have not been able to see him due to the amps (he is in the picture i took, far right on edge of picture and can barely be seen since he is behind the amps).

I'm not much of a dual show person, but glad I got out last night to catch DFA1979 set at the club and Funk Arks set at their record release party.  Different ends of the musical spectrum for sure...

Goddamn, Diarrhea Planet and opener Wish List were so great. Jeff the Brotherhood have completely changed from a two-piece power pop group to a 4-piece metal band with constant smoke machines and guitar solos
