definitely in for Seu Jorge.... but I'm doing it for Seu Jorge!
i really like his first album Carolina (listening to it now).it was produced by Mario Caldato...tracks like Mangueira and Carolina are awesome.... the follow up was not as good (Cru)... too slow.. not enough of the Samba Funk that made the debut so captivating.. hearing someone sing slow boring songs in a foreign language is not very appealing!.... and I sort of lost touch after that...of course the Bowie covers CD is great (as Bowie himself acknowledged).. I actually donated my copy of the CD to the 930 Club Hall of Records.. I'll pick it back up at some point I'm sure....ideally on vinyl though its currently out of print..
at one point he seemed to have a really promising career ahead of him.. but his first album was 15 years ago and he really has not made much of a mark in the end...which is why he's playing Bowie covers... I did see him open for Cesaria Evora at Wolftrap but it was just him with an acoustic and on the lawn everyone was busy stuffing themselves like pigs and downing drinks into their gullets as quickly as possible... so it made no impression.. then one time I think Seu Jorge opened up for somebody at MPP and I saw quite a bit of that on an amateur video a friend filmed and it looked pretty good..there was a band.. I know he played the 930 too...
I guess I found Cru very dissapointing..that's the short of it.. but I love Carolina..
