Always something of a fine line on the crowd bit.  It's like porn, you know it when you see it.  I don't think anyone expects complete reverent silence all the time, the spontaneity of the crowd can be half the fun.

It's one thing to make a comment to your friend during a song and another to carry on a complete and unrelated conversation as if that were the radio you were listening to.  I think the rudeness comes from people wanting to have it both ways.  If you want to talk with a friend or are just there for some background music, that's cool, go to the back or downstairs.  If you want to enjoy the music, get in the crowd and enjoy the music.  Just don't spend half the song screaming to your friend, "this is such an awesome song!!!"

The Club would make more money if they got a merch person with a little more hustle.  The guy who usually staffs the booth moves slower than my grandmother.  On more than one occasion I've opted to leave rather than wait for him.

Had this happen when I saw Paul McCartney... It only got better, when the drunk on half a beer women started having a conversation during "Vanilla Sky" about how they rented the movie to watch during some cookie baking party.  The truly defining moment for this group was the "what flag is that?" comment when  Paul brought out the District of Columbia flag during the encores.  Dim people...

When I was over in London back in the mid-90's, I walked past this club that was packed with  guys wearing baseball caps.  Curiosity got to me so I asked what was going on - the bouncer said some yank band and was in town and it looks like 400 Americans came out to see them.  It was Blues Traveler, and not one Brit who didn't work there was in the place.

a bunch of people asked about the song during the encore: its the b-side to chocolate (or maybe run).. post punk progression. each time i hear that song it gets better. i did learn on the b-side its MUCH slower. so now i need to find myself a live copy of that track  :)

liked the show overall. gary seemed more comfortable on stage here than he did in new york. talked a bit more, joked around. they had a longer set in new  york, with playing a sampling off the earlier albums and the new stuff.

the show was very enjoyable minus the people who insisted on talking so loud throughout the show. i was towards the front, on the right side directly in front of the bar (near the water). some girls near me thought it'd be great to talk throughout the entire show, and not quietly either. i know some guy asked her if she could either go to the back to talk or just be quiet, to which her response was "fuck you or fuck off".. so mature   :)

funny, i found the show to be boring and predictable.  i was standing near the merch table, tho', so i may have missed stuff, being so far back.

let's just say i'm glad i had my sparks before the show.

Have you been to many 9:30 Club shows?  This was an energetic crowd -- nearly everyone around me was dancing or singing -- you must have been in some designated quiet section.  Folks upstairs along the bar were even dancing.  That doesn't happen much at all...

No f'ing way.

PS, I found Athlete pretty awful as well.  They have the uncanny ability to put in one or two things into every song to really turn me off, be it a nursery-rhymey keyboard affect or an odd chorus (not odd as in interesting, odd as in "that sounds like a song by Mr. Greenjeans").

thanks for letting us little people know what its like on stage Mr Rock Star!

you continue to completely miss the point on this thread - no-one has the slightest problem with the things you are describing below....its when folks take it to extremes that its a problem

'll prolly get bashed for saying this but sometimes you guys act like the angry black guy who is just waiting for the white person to look his way or say something he doesn't like to get his hissyfit done...I wear baseball caps, i've taken pictures with cameraphones, I've turned to the person next to me to comment..I don't see how that takes away from the concert experience...and here is something you may not know..when bands are onstage 95% you don't get to see the crowd cos it's dark as hell...and while you are playing you don't really hear the crowd..and when you are using in-ear-monitors (as most bands nowaday do) you don't hear anything from the crowd pretty much...

That's what I'm talkin' about Fico -- the folks who watch the ENTIRE show through their camera phones or digital cameras.  Hello, there's a band there, why don't you watch them?!

Same with talking.  I make comments to my friends too (just ask Markie...), but there are those who hold full-on, full-volume conversations in the middle of the headliners set.  Go to the f'ing Back Bar or lounge area in the back...

Yeah, and when the band is playing I tell you to shut up! But as no one can understand me, you just nod your head and then keep talking. I bet you thought I said something really deep, or cool?

But it's not me talking, it's my friend!  Though you are on the spot as to my response to you -- a nod, as if I heard you, and assumption you either said something deep and cool or it was a beer-induced muttering...

I am very reverent during shows, I'll have you know.

 -edit-

I've been thinking.  I'm not always so reverent during openers.  I should be better.  I'll try to progress as a person and a concert-goer...

I am not saying all the things mentioned here don't happen..they do, and to a degree they take away from the experience...to me its just weird that going to the same shows I don't have those same complaints on such numerous occasions..some people at the floor will complain about jocks in baseball caps in the balcony..they're tools..yet you must leave and let live..when I get annoyed I move from my space..yet it seems the modus operandi is to claim your ground, get aggravated and bitch about it here the next day...it's unfortunate but some battles are not worth fighting...
