I'll take the Pernice Brothers over GBV. Not a big fan, but I sort of liked what I've heard so far. Surprised my butt!

that was the first one i got, and i loved it.  hmmm, "universal truths and cycles" is quite accessible, and probably more representative of what they sound like today as opposed to the mid 90s. [/b]
Bee Thousand was also my first, and then Mag Earwhig, two very different albums.  And while I love it, I think Bee Thousand will lose a lot of people as soon as Hot freaks comes on.  Alien Lanes is pretty accesible and has A Salty Salute, Motor Away, Watch Me Jumpstart, My Valuable Hunting Knife, Striped White Jets and Game of Pricks.  Hard to go wrong there.

actually, i'd have start with "under the bushes, under the stars."  there's not one bad song on it. . .it's got Official Ironman Rally Song, Acorns and Orioles, Redmen and Their Wives, Drag Days, Cut-Out Witch, Your Name is Wild, Don't Stop Now.  i mean, it's hard to find an album that contains 24 songs where all songs are consistently good.  i find alien lanes a bit difficult to listen to in its entirety.

Launch has 3 videos on it, of which, i'd only watch the video for Official Ironman Rally Song, that is by far and away one of their 2 or 3 best songs.

The thing about GBV is the story for me. Just a bunch of guys (not just the ones in the band, the monument club and so on and so forth) having fun on the weekends. Never trying to be much of anything. Then someone leaked Propellor, and Bob started to realize his dream.

I would liken GBV more to the Beatles though, for me their music is the earlier stuff which is more beatlesk than the latter which would be more like the who.

GBV is a rock n roll American Dream

a pollard top ten is too much fun to pass on, but limiting to only at ten is tough:

 glad girls
 alone, stinking & unafraid
 big boring wedding
 quality of armor
 motor away
 tight globes
 psychic pilot clocks out
 bright paper werewolves
 goldheart mountaintop queen directory
 teenage fbi

Is it at least sponsored by some sort of alcoholic beverage?  Do they know what they're getting into booking GBV?

Yeah I am wondering how this show is going to work, not a great venue for GBV.
