well, i think the whole point of this is that the ump called the batter out, then said he didn't.

i was just trying to rile the cardinal fan. :)

Anytime an umpire/referee/official shows up at a press conference with a guy in a trenchcoat, you can bet a lie is about to perpetrated.

Where's the accountability? Why can't they just admit they were wrong and blew the call?

i really just dont get why they dont like to ask for help, there are so many times where they could just ask an ump who had a better view but they wont

who was the guy in the trenchcoat anyway, i only saw part of it

i think that baseball umps, on the whole, do a good job of coming together and figuring it out. however, in this instance, no one could possibly have a good view of whether or not the ball hit the dirt. in any event, to me, and as smackie pointed out about his "style," eddings called him out, then said he didn't. this is a semioticians dream.

Actually, after about 3 hours of arguing, the home plate umpire did ask the third base umpire. The hand motions seemed to indicate that the third base umpire agreed with him.

Monday Morning Bench Coach.

Hereâ??s what I think:

  • I think I will never suffer a worse sports weekend in my life (Iâ??m a Notre Dame, Pittsburgh Steelers, Anaheim Angels and Tony Stewart fan. Only Man U put a smile on my face this weekend.)

  • I think AJ Pierziynski had no friends growing up, and still has no friends today.

  • I think Jim Edmonds had no friends growing up, and still has no friends today, but that there was no way he should have been rung up â?? even if he did call him a cocksucker.

  • I think that some member of the Angels coaching staff should have been rung up this weekend, but that no member of the Cardinals staff should have been rung up.

  • I think last night was the last time I will see Darin Erstad, Bengie Molina or Mickey Hatcher in an Angels uniform.

  • I think the Notre Dame-USC game was the greatest college football game Iâ??ve ever seen, Reggie Bush deserves the Heisman, Matt Leinhart has the biggest set of balls of any player in college football and the heâ??s suffering from concussions and not telling anyone because he doesn't want to be second guessed.

  • I think Charlie Weis will go down as one of the greatest coaches in Notre Dame history, if he doesnâ??t have a heart attack before he gets there.

  • I think this has been the worst umpired LCS I have ever seen for both the AL and the NL.

  • I think Tommy Maddox displayed the true differences between NFL Europe and the real NFL yesterday. That and his deal with the devil is up.

  • I think Vlad Guerrero was hurt and didnâ??t tell anyone.

  • I think Iâ??m not very good at Fantasy Hockey.

Hereâ??s what I think I think:

  • I think I think that for a group of veterans, the Angels really didnâ??t handle all the bad calls as they should have and that the rain delay in New York had a bigger effect on the team than the calls, but that the media wonâ??t talk about it because they beat New York.

  • I think I think that Ozzie Guillen really doesnâ??t know how to handle a pitching staff, but that the announcers will laud his accomplishments for the next two weeks. The first time a reliever comes in to a clutch situation and Tim McCarver says he looks rusty, I will be proved right.

  • I think I think that I like Lou Pinella. Not in a like-like kind of way either.

Coffeenerdness: Mountain Dew is a great coffee substitute, but the "Tall Boy" 16 oz. can of Mountain Dew Amp should be listed by the FDA as a narcotic.

i think that FOX will wish they could show "house" -- hell, even "prison break" -- instead of the ratings bonanza that will be a white sox/astros world series.

i also think that my lack hockey knowledge is starting to become clear.

Why do people prefer the Cubs over the Sox? The Cubs suck.

well, i'm sure robbie fulks will watch.

really, no combination of the four teams was going to get good ratings. chicago's a big market, but how many casual baseball fans can name a single player on the pale hose? el duque is probably their best-known player, just from his time with the yankees. maybe if they go overboard on "this might be the last time you get to watch roger clemens, arguably the greatest pitcher in the history of the game" type stuff, it'll connect with people.
