I hate to say it the new Dylan album -at least musically- is pretty snoozey

Some good songs...the voice much better than Tempest

Haven’t dug into the lyrics

If we are being honest, Dylan hasn’t put out a good solo LP in decades.

That’s a weird expression...I am only honest even with a sacred cow like Bob Dylan

My favorite Dylan albums since 1997

1. Time out of mind
2. Modern Times
3. Christmas in the heart

The above are just superb and I will stand on Steve Earle’s coffee table and say so

Tier right below

1. Tempest

Just don’t do much for me

1. Love and theft
2. Together through life

Not going to get into the “Sinatra Dylan albums”

I can’t judge a Dylan record after one listen so we will see on Rough and rowdy ways but it doesn’t rock much which bums me out a bit

But at this point anything he does is a bonus

Des Demonas - S/T

This was listed as a suggestion  for DC based black indie acts on Bandcamp and it sounded right up my ally.  Turns out yup, howling vocals, fuzzy guitars, Farfisa Organ  and a pounding rhythm section.  Nice addition to my Bandcamp collection...   Release description is written by Kid Congo Powers..

Yeah: "The South Will Never Rise Again" is great. I ended up buying the LP off the label's website and bought other stuff on the Bandcamp on Friday. My record buying costs are still nowhere near my former concert ticket buying costs, so that is my rationalization for spending this money that I should be saving.

Yup Bandcamp sure make it easy to freely spend... I played it pretty safe on Friday purchase wise...

Got the Don Bryant that just came out, a collection of Gwenno remixes and bonus tracks, new Joe Pernice,  a Sloan single, We Are King, that Fountains of Wayne Tribute and a couple electronic music  benefit comps put together to benefit various orgs.

THE LICKERISH QUARTET

A supergroup of sought after songwriters and musicians, former members of the legendary band JELLYFISH. The musical journeys of Eric Dover, Roger Joseph Manning Jr. and Tim Smith have synchronized for the first time since 1994. Just like any great relationship, they simply picked up where they left off.

Roger Joseph Manning Jr. (Beck, Air, Cheap Trick and Imperial Drag)

Eric Dover (Imperial Drag, Slash's Snakepit, Alice Cooper, Sextus)

Tim Smith (Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, The Finn Brothers, Sheryl Crow, Umajets)

The Strokes - The New Abnormal

Key listen after a few months...does it have staying power? When you first listen to an album you want to think it’s good particularly if you had to pay for it...maybe everyone around you tells you it IS good....

You put it away and a few months later you dig it out and think to yourself “ok is it actually any bloody good?”
