Moz - Your Arsenal

Morrissey gets a lot of flak…some of it justified some of it over the top

National Front Disco is pretty polemic but in some way - like much of his work- foretells Brexit/Trumpism

I find nothing wrong with the song. He describes a kid/young man named David (Bowie?) who falls under the influence of the fascist National Front… Moz doesn’t pass judgment…

It’s true though,  in retrospect, that Moz does in fact want an “England for the English”…

It’s amusing that the album produced by Mick Ronson lifts the coda from Rock’n’roll suicide for the ending of I know it’s gonna happen someday.

I know many disagree but Moz’s solo work from 1988-1995 is almost as good as The Smiths (sometimes as good) and demonstrates he didn’t need Marr. He found other collaborators like Vini Reilly, Stephen Street, Nevin and Whyte who were able to provide the music for his lyrics.

Based on the Stones discussion over the past few days here, I think you all would dig this... However hutch, you would have to download this.

I would love to hear what 1995 Noel would have had to say about this song

Ween - 12 golden country greats

Found a promo cd with the Ali rap

I sold my copy many years ago without realizing the rap was removed from virtually every issue after the first due to the Ali people complaining

learning all sorts of things today...didn't even know about this

The first copy of 12 Golden Country Greats I bought has the version of Powder Blue where it goes, "And ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to present, Muhammad Ali" end of song. I had read about how Ween originally recorded the song with an audio clip of Muhammad Ali trash-talking at the end. They were apparently denied permission to use the Ali audio, by Ali's lawyers. But there were promo copies of the album that were produced with the Muhammad Ali bit intact. Here comes the question; I bought a used copy of 12 Golden Country Greats at an estate sale (despite already owning it) I thought, "Do you think it could have the original version of Powder Blue?

The releases were normal, not promotional. Here's the discogs where you can click through to each release of the record to see which include and don't include the ali quote: https://www.discogs.com/Ween-12-Golden-Country-Greats/master/32648

For instance, this is probably the one you found: https://www.discogs.com/Ween-12-Golden-Country-Greats/release/875805

"This release includes a speech by Muhammed Ali at the end of track 6, which was removed from later pressings."

I have the US version of the album; it has the Ali clip. I picked up my copy the day it was released. As far as I know, all first pressings have the Ali clip. Ween wasn't asked to remove the clip until after the CD shipped. There was never a recall or "order to destroy" sent to retail. The Ali estate just asked to have the clip removed and ween/Elektra complied.

Dot Allison
Love Died in Our Arms (Lee Scratch Perry Remix)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_jTKMngWWk

Possibly one of Scratch's last remixes  :'(  Dot would be best known as the singer with One Dove from the early 90s who had a "hit" with "Fallen"... Andrew Weatherall did a bunch of production for them

Yeah that’s exactly right. I am pretty sure I had an original stock copy with the rap but I haven’t had it in over a decade. Now when I saw the promo I thought it would have the rap and it does. It’s not just that subsequent versions don’t have the rap but in addition they come to a cold hard stop on Powder blue which I have never liked.

BTW did we mention Pig Robbins died last week?

Him and Bobby Ogdin play piano on the album. Never sure exactly who plays on what song

Kozmo posted it
Pig didn't tour with them, correct?

The Shit Creek Boys. Gener and Deaner were joined by drummer Claude Coleman Jr., pianist Bobby Ogdin, pedal steel wiz Stu Basore, bassist Matt Kohut, fiddler Hank Singer and guitarist Danny Parks for the October 1996 run.

the clash of course
although it seems like there wasn't a ton of coordination as some has it as the 7th and some the 8th

Although as I understand it KEXP invented it, so I think they get the final say..
