While on the topic of Marr, for those of you who enjoyed the cover of There Is A Light That Never Goes Out at the Neil Finn show, I just discovered that Finn performs it with Marr on Finn's live cd, 7 Worlds Collide.

What does Beethoven say to you about your life?<P>To ignore the impact the Beatles and their body of work has had on the music industry and all bands after them (including the Smiths) would be extremely narrow-minded. They were innovative and influential in a way the Smiths could never even dream of achieving. Hell, I am sure I listen to the Smiths a good bit more often than the Beatles.. but that doesn't make them a better band.

I think this whole agrument goes back to the Oasis-sshole quote that if they were around first in the 60's they would have been bigger than the Beatles.  If the Beatles had not kicked up the singer-songwriter market to the level it became, and the hysteria for British bands, the Smiths might never have formed.  Definitely true for Oasis.
