Virtually every track could be a single. Infact I defy you to name one that couldnt, other than the rather obvious choice of the two instrumentals.
The cure on the other hand had plenty of filler and album tracks of a considerably lower quality.

Ah, but everyone stumbles a few times on the way to greatness.
I wouldn't say that every track on every Smiths album is single-worthy, either, but that's just my opinion.

Well, for one, I will skip "I know it's over" 7 times out of 10, if I'm near the "next" button. I just find it to be sort of boring.
There are Cure songs that I would skip, too. I can't think of any band that puts out 100 percent greatness, every single time.
Maybe I'm just impatient. I have a habit of skipping through things to get to other things. Maybe I'm just that excited to get to the rest of the fabulous songs on the album?

While the production is more detailed than before, the Smiths are at their best when they stick to their strengths â?? "The Headmaster Ritual" and "I Want the One I Can't Have" are fine elaborations of the formula they laid out on the debut, while "Rusholme Ruffians" is an infectious stab at rockabilly. However, the rest of Meat Is Murder is muddled, repeating lyrical and musical ideas of before without significantly expanding them or offering enough hooks or melodies to make it the equal of The Smiths or Hatful of Hollow.

OK,
I tend not to trust allmusic that far. Certainly mine own expert views often contradict with their writers.
I find they often compare a bands output with references only to that particular band and with hinsight to the bands entire work. So if all the albums by a group are masterpieces, they will find flaws that sound fatal, but really are not there.
Look at the track list of meat is murder and I think all the songs are pretty damn good personally.
1. Â The Headmaster Ritual (Marr/Morrissey) - 4:52
2. Â Rusholme Ruffians (Marr/Morrissey) - 4:19
3. Â I Want the One I Can't Have (Marr/Morrissey) - 3:13
4. Â What She Said (Marr/Morrissey) - 2:40
review Â 5. Â That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore (Marr/Morrissey) - 4:57
review Â 6. Â How Soon Is Now? (Marr/Morrissey) - 6:43
7. Â Nowhere Fast (Marr/Morrissey) - 2:35
8. Â Well I Wonder (Marr/Morrissey) - 4:00
9. Â Barbarism Begins at Home (Marr/Morrissey) - 6:55
10. Â Meat Is Murder

Here is what allmusic thought :
"the lovely melancholy of "I Know It's Over""
I do agree with that one.

personally, i much prefer meat is murder to their debut. i only actyually liked a few songs on the debut, and they were included on hatful of hollow. don't like the title track to meat is murder, though I agree with the sentiment.

A number of songs on there sound much better on hatful of hollow.
Still suffer the little children is only on the Smiths album and it is one of their finest songs.
