ESPN sez the new team will probably not be called "the Senators" because the Texas Rangers (f/k/a the Washington Senators, take 2) still own the rights to the name ... after all the hush money they're going to be paying Peter Angelos, I doubt MLB wants to shell out any more just for a team name.

As long as MLB owns them they'll be called the Expos.  New owners will give the new name.  That may not be next season.

I was watching PTI on ESPN today, and the name "Generals" was mentioned.  That seems to have some possibility.

No matter what, because it is DC, I think the name is going to reflect government.
