It's about the lyrics, not the voice. Mind you, it wouldn't have the same feeling if Charlotte Church sang "Blowing in the wind" so maybe the voice adds to the feeling.
 
 Like Bruce Springboard has the voice of a canary, or Tom Waits does session work at the local Tabernacel! (sp?)
