hey easy there, killer.  I respect the Pistols for their important contribution to modern music.  I'm just asserting my opinion that they are not artists, at least not of Neil Young's calibre.

P.S.  I wasn't even born when Grundy wrote his little interview.  Gimme a break.

I was just kidding with you.....

But I think Punk and the Pistols were more closely related to high art than Neil young will ever be.

think of the work Jamie Reid, the graphic designer did and the clothes of Vivienne Westwood. Both were complete revolutions, along with the music.

 You think I don't appreciate
art. You think I don't understand
fashion. You think I'm not hip.
You think I'm pathetic, a nerd,
          a lard-ass fatso. You think I'm shit.
          Well, you're wrong. 'Cause I'm
          champagne. And you're shit.
And till the day you die, you,
not me, will always be shit.

Neil Young has been putting out top notch music for 35 years. How many artists who were around in the late 60's are still at the top of their game in 2003?

The Sex Pistols were still probably flicking boogers at their prep school schoolmaster in the late 60's...and how many top notch albums have they put out?

Retro garbage, I'm sick of it.

Yes, I dont know why you listen to Neil young.

I think from a high art viewpoint the pistols did something much more interesting than Neil Young.

The Pistols have one half-cocked album, but Jonny Lydon did some interesting work with PIL and Leftfield.

I think the pistols did something extraordinary, to me Neil young is just a grumpy guy who wrote some above average songs. Did he write "Ohio"?

At least I'll always appreciate you for your well chosen quotes, oh scientist.  I do agree that the institution surrounding the pistols was full of artists...McLaren for one.  But the music itself? Bollocks doesn't get a lot of replays compared to, say, "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere".  Don't get me wrong - Bollocks was a vital album for its time, but the mark of great art is how well it ages.  Hearing Neil Young play Down By The River at 57 is inspiring...I can't imagine the same will hold true when Johnny busts out God Save the Queen.  Rule of thumb...if an old fart makes you laugh unintentionally, he's really pushing it.

Above average songs?!  Hell, even Ohio is a great song AND it predated the whole Sex Pistols screw the gov't thing.  Try putting on Heart of Gold, Old Man, and Hey Hey My My and tell me those songs are above average.

thanks for the back up, Thirsty.  Although Markie got me a little bit with PiL...a truly interesting, artistically relevant band.  Too bad they only made one good record.  As opposed to Neil's what, 15 and counting?

I'll give you Bowie, but the Stones haven't put out much anything good since Tattoo You...

Tom Jones I admit I'm a bit ignorant of. Isn't he the guy old ladies throw their undies at?
