chokey, i don't get it... ebay says that you can indeed advertise any charitable auction, with or without using eBay Giving Works, "as long as the listings meet our specific guidelines for charitable solicitations".  how are you unable to meet these guidelines?  what are they?

it's looked down upon because it's utterly deplorable, charity shows aside.
you don't have to justify what you are doing because there is no justification whatsoever.
it's unfortunate that you even live near me.

Kosmo, please don't tell me what I am and am not doing.  I have sold 6 tickets for the Thievery show and have 2 more to sell, and have raised almost 1,000 dollars.  I guarantee that's more money than anybody on this board raised by buying a ticket at face value.  As I stated before, if I cannot donate the money directly at the show, I will donate it via paypal.

I should not have to get defensive about this issue on this board.  I realize what I do is looked down upon on this board and it is why I do not discuss it.  But I pay taxes (probably a lot more than you do) just like any other american citizen on the money I Make, and I never benefit from charity shows.  So please, lay off the ethical peptalks.
Okay. I'll buy a pair from your auction and when we meet at will call I will give you a check payable to James Robbins for the amount of the sale.

 Deal?

Me thinks that you are justifying your actions to much and the paying more taxes is pure bullshit and a silly smoke screen.  Just put it this way your actions are being watched...

Do you actually report all this scalping income to the IRS?

It's pretty natural for people to assume the worst about scalpers, because what you and your ilk do is so inherently obnoxious.  Scalpers are leeches sucking at the lifeblood of the music scene.  If you're really going to give all those proceeds to this cause, get a receipt and post it here.  Unless you do that, I think people have fair grounds to assume your actions are entirely self-serving.

I believe if you "make" over a certain amount on ebay in a year, based on auctions of things you sold, that they issue a 1099-Misc.

I think everyone needs to knock it off, it's the guy's business and there's zero law against what he's doing. Even if he's going to pocket every penny from those tickets, it's not our business and all this "we don't take kindly to your kind" and "you'll be watched" bull is a bunch of ridiculous posturing. People scalp tickets. It happens. Grow up and get over it.

Being watched in the fact that he could get banned from the forum, even if what is being done is completely above board or not.

For what? Selling tickets to an event AT A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CLUB... ON EBAY? Do you and the rest of the staph really have nothing better to do with your time then enforce your feelings on other's personal lives thru this messageboard?

If you want to enforce social mores, try banning GGW for starting a thread linking to someone's personal affairs and throwing up highly inflamatory and inaccurate ad hominym like "________ profits off sick children." CC has kept his business off this board, and it would've stayed off this board if the whole lot of you didn't denegrate into an indie-credo penis-length comparison.

kosmo, i find that completely unbelieveable and unncessary.  I have contributed positive things to this board for years now; I've been visiting for a long time.  I have never caused trouble and I have never done anything to warrant a ban.  You banning me would do nobody any good except display your power as a message board administrator, which we all know good and well that you have.

Whether or not you believe that I pay taxes is up to you, man.  I'm not going to defend myself unncessarily.  I'll be happy to let you speak to my tax attourney and you two can battle to the death.  I run a business full time, and I pay the appropriate taxes as a citizen of this country.  I'm not saying anything more about it, because me paying taxes is not what this thread is about.

I'm not going to post a receipt of my donation on here, either.  I'm not out to prove anything to anybody; I am a light-hearted individual that cares about this music scene and the people involved in it, and wanted to do something to contribute to the Robbins family because I believe in the case.  I'm sorry that the way I'm going about doing it isn't satisfactory enough for some of you.  But the bottom line is; unless your donation meets strict ebay guidelines, which me either doing a face-to-face donation at the show or sending a payment via paypal does not meet, you cannot, under any circumstances, advertise that something is for charity in the listing.  Believe me, I've done it in the past; they'll shut you down in 12 hours or less.

As I've said time and time again, what I do for a living is my decision.  It is legal in 90% of the country, and see as a service to most people, and an act of scum to others.  I will never convince either party to jump over the line, so I'm not going to try; most of you are well-set in your mindframes, and there's no point trying to convince otherwise; especially when I don't really care that much.  At the end of the day, whether or not you agree with what I do for a living does not affect my sleeping patterns.  The clients that we have as a business love the service we provide, and come back time and time again.  And that's really all that matters.

whatever... i slightly flex my opinion on something and get flamed for it... rarely do i feel the need to play the moderator here, so there must be some cause for my concern here.

i could care less if what is being done is legal or not, at this point there are several people on this forum who are annoyed by certain actions... so i'm representing the voice of that part of the community and obviously thats not going to make me popular with all.  any actions that ended up being taken will be approved by the club staph.  and if i've over stepped my bounds i will offer an apology.

and i could give a rats ass about where or not you pay taxes as its a complete non-starter
