Because the truth is that he's pocketing all the profits for himself....?

one more thing to add -- even if theoretically he does plan to give all his profits to the cause -- and there is absolutely NO evidence of that so far beyond his scalper's word -- he will STILL profit because participating in such a red-hot sale helps build his client list.

The real question is, would the Callum Robbins fund want to have been "helped" in this manner?  They could've auctioned a block of tickets off on Ebay themselves if they thought that was a good way to raise money.

Alright.  I've let this digest for 24 hours, and while I don't hold scalpers in high regard, I do feel banning chokeychicken would be harsh.

I'm still not sure that he did anything that violated his user agreement to use this board.  It's not like this board is how he received any special treatment or obtained a password needed to buy tickets.  DCist has been lurking for years and though we scoff at them, there's really no way to stop them from lurking.  Most importantly (and rather smartly) CC wasn't using this board to sell his/her tickets.

That being said, GGW had every right to post his discovery and, conversely, CC should not have been afforded any extra protection simply because he is a member of this board.  We have flamed many a scalper on this board and will continue to flame scalpers.  Ignoring this and any other ebay sale would have been the wrong thing to do.  The only difference is that CC chose to defend his/her postition on scalping, most others have not.  We have had one or two people in the past attempt to defend their position, but most left after they began to see that the overwhelming majority on this board deplore scalpers and scalping.

I hope that GGW's post does actually earn more money for the charity, and since CC's rep on this board has taken a serious hit, I feel we will begin to hear less and less from CC in the future as he will always be known as a scalper on the board.  There's probably little need to ban him as 9:30 Board nature will take its course.

speaking of scalpers:

i spent the afternoon trying to track down tickets for this week's Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden and found a guy on NYC.craigslist who was nice enough to sell tickets for 4 sessions to me at face value ... AND he's a syracuse fan!  the wonders never cease!

I'll bet they're more concerned about the health of their child and their mounting bills than they are worried about the moral implications of a ticket scalper who hands them a check.

Maybe its just me, but something tells me that the Callum Robbins fund doesn't give a shit about the issue.

definitely - the fund itself doesn't care, as it doesn't have any feelings.

people involved with the fund, however, might not be impressed that someone is making money off their fund raiser.  these things take time and effort - which should translate into money for the sick kid.

but like you said, maybe its just me.

The sick kid is still getting his money. The people who set up the fundraiser no doubt anticipated a sellout which at $15 per ticket times 600 tickets is $9000. And guess how much they'll get from ticket sales? $9000! It's not as though the 200 he's going to get for a pair to this is going to be deducted from their funds, even if he keeps it. If they wanted to make more money, perhaps they should have set ticket prices higher.

The moral outrage over this has nothing to do with it being a "charity" concert or "sick kids" and everything to do with the opinion of this board on scalping in general. And as is so often the case, the fine denizens of 930.com prove themselves utterly incapable of handling any disagreement with the world they face like mature adults. When confronted with Washington Post articles they dislike instead of writing into the Post, they bitch on here and curse J. Freedom's name. When confronted with evil BigYawn insulting their favorite band  instead of sending the editor an email, they bitch on here and cause drama. When confronted with a citizen operating legally within the capitalistic system we have instead of writing their congressman and asking them to change the laws, they bitch on 930.com. Oh, how easy to be an activist in a world where "putting your money where your mouth is" involves no more then logging onto a nightclub's messageboard. And to think, we're the more mature DC-area music messageboard!

as was the case yesterday, the only thing I have to say regarding this matter at this point... is to ask if there is any indication that chokeychicken has taken up GGW's direct challenge for him to walk to talk regarding his charity giving ways.

This is probably the dumbest fucking thing I've ever read on this forum.
