My friends and I arrived at Merriweather at about 5:35p as Mogwai were playing on the stage. It was heartbreaking to have to hear "Helicon 1" from the parking lot, but that was our own faults
First off, thumbs up to the new and improved Merriweather Post Pavilion. The new sculptures, 932, ample food selection, knowledgable staff and all the other little improvements made for a fun evening (much like the actual 930 club). Also, thumbs up to the Curiosa organizers! While I would have loved to see longer sets from all the artists, they really kept it right on schedule with very minimal wait times between bands.
Now onto the music... I really felt Muse stole the show. I knew those guys were geniuses but finally seeing them in person just reaffirmed what I had known. Bellamy is a virtuoso on the guitar, piano, vocals, whatever.... The atmosphere at the 2nd stage was amazing. The sun had set, the crowd was excited, everyone dancing and Muse made the most of their 30 minute allotment.
It was great to finally get to see the Cure live, but thought they sounded flat for most of the show. I don'tknow what it was, maybe our positions in the pavilion but I never really got into it. It felt like Robert and the boys were just going through the motions trying to make the 11pm curfew.
My favs sets in order: Muse, Interpol, Mogwai, the Cure and the Cooper Temple Clause..... (I had to miss Auf der Maur because I had a situation with my car driving in and was meeting roadside assistance in the parking lot), but she sounded good from the lot.
So hats off to the Merriweather Post Pavilion, Seth and crew and Curiosa for bringing us a fun evening. DOWN WITH NISSAN!
