I saw the Cure in 87, and again in 89. Does that count for anything?

Me too, with Love and Rockets and the Pixies as the openers.  That has to count for something.

Many thanks to Kosmo for his organizational efforts.

We didn't get there until well after 6:00, but had a good time.  The Rapture and Interpol were both very good.  We left before the Cure was finished.

Kudos to Seth.  The sound on the lawn was top notch and the screen was clear enough to see glimpses of glistening spittle in Paul Banks' mouth.

Nice to meet some new people and good to see some old ones (albeit briefly).

I wish we could have gotten to the show in time to catch Kosmo's set and Brennserforce #1.

 I'm off to vacation now.

Nah, you bumbs don't count. Great night out at merriweather. An early Friday night from a drinking aspect, but hey, i still had to drive my car home fomr its parking spot. Awesome time, good seeing lots of folks, though many of you I barely talked to. Sonick and Guiny finally met and bonded as we all expected. But also were a great bunch to hang with.

Muse were awesome, but the Cure played barely anything recognizable for the avg. fan save for the encores. That kinda sucked. Interpol were kinda boring, as were the Rapture. Mogwai was cool if not loud.

Thanks to Seth (though we never saw him) and kosmo and all the rest. You guys rock. Until the holiday get together....

i caught mogwai/the rapture in pittsburgh last night.  i wasn't too into the rapture at all.  mogwai was great as usual.  i thought about coming out for curiosa, but decided against it.
i may still end up going to one or two of them though.

sounds good to me actually. i really wasn't liking the looks of the new songs + singles setlist that it was looking to be at first.
cleveland was a nice change.  i wouldn't have minded being there (except that i don't like cleveland)

Just great.  I'm kinda drunk and tired, so I'll post tomorrow, but you gotta say Seth, you're the man, but Kosmo worked so hard at this forum gathering and, all by himself, he IS the 9:30 Club street team.  Thanks, K.  You are so the man, just sorry I missed your DJ set (as well as Brennsers -- boo hoo!).

I was in the pit about 10 feet from Robert Smith, so all I can really say is that I had an absolutely fantastic view and I was around a group of people that made the show VERY fun. I thought the setlist was great, of course there are a few songs I would have liked to hear, but I got to hear "A Night Like This", "Push", "Disintegration", "the Walk", and a TON of other great tunes. Not only that, but it seemed like they were really enjoying themselves (yeah, considering it's the Cure after all). I'm sure if I had been further back it might not have been as enjoyable, but they sounded great and I am so glad I went.

The only other band I caught (since I was busy socializing and checking out 932) was Interpol. I thought they were absolutely fantastic as well. I got the setlist, which I will post later. It's time for bed now!

My friends and I arrived at Merriweather at about 5:35p as Mogwai were playing on the stage. It was heartbreaking to have to hear "Helicon 1" from the parking lot, but that was our own faults  :)  First off, thumbs up to the new and improved Merriweather Post Pavilion. The new sculptures, 932, ample food selection, knowledgable staff and all the other little improvements made for a fun evening (much like the actual 930 club). Also, thumbs up to the Curiosa organizers! While I would have loved to see longer sets from all the artists, they really kept it right on schedule with very minimal wait times between bands.

Now onto the music... I really felt Muse stole the show. I knew those guys were geniuses but finally seeing them in person just reaffirmed what I had known. Bellamy is a virtuoso on the guitar, piano, vocals, whatever.... The atmosphere at the 2nd stage was amazing. The sun had set, the crowd was excited, everyone dancing and Muse made the most of their 30 minute allotment.

It was great to finally get to see the Cure live, but thought they sounded flat for most of the show. I don'tknow what it was, maybe our positions in the pavilion but I never really got into it. It felt like Robert and the boys were just going through the motions trying to make the 11pm curfew.

My favs sets in order: Muse, Interpol, Mogwai, the Cure and the Cooper Temple Clause..... (I had to miss Auf der Maur because I had a situation with my car driving in and was meeting roadside assistance in the parking lot), but she sounded good from the lot.

So hats off to the Merriweather Post Pavilion, Seth and crew and Curiosa for bringing us a fun evening. DOWN WITH NISSAN!  :)

wow.. THANK YOU for the tickets, kosmo (or whoever was running the contest). the show last night was amazing! my friend and i got there right as the gates opened. what a nice day to be at merriweather. mogwai were good, very loud.. am i the only one who thought the rapture were fantastic? interpol was amazing as well, my friend and i got up and were shaking our asses to them... muse was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, i couldn't believe how many people actually knew who they were and were singing along. and the cure... well, the cure songs i know are pretty much only the hits so the encore was absolutely amazing for me. i didn't think they ever played "friday i'm in love" anymore, so that was nice to hear. robert smith forgetting the words was amusing as well. if the traffic on I-95 had been gone when i was on my way home, it would have been a perfect evening.

just wanted to show my appreciation for the tix. thank you again!

Many thanks to Seth for the behind-the-scenes hospitality and to Kosmo for a terrific job as ringmaster at 9:32.  It was a pleasure putting faces to so many names and getting a chance to talk to the real people instead of the board-persona masks.  The former are much warmer, as expected.

This was the first time I had been to MPP under the IMP regime.  It's definitely an improved venue, most importantly with respect to the sound.  All my industry contacts are telling me this has been one of the worst summers on record (from a financial standpoint) for the concert business.  There seems to be much uncertainty about the development plans for the larger parcel in which MPP is located, a possible Howard County buyout of the facility, etc.  Let's hope that stuff doesn't get in the way of IMP having an extended chance to show what they can do.

As far as the music last night, maybe I'm just an old fart but I thought the Cure (who are still at the top of their game IMHO) were leagues better than any of the up-and-coming bands they were showcasing with Curiosa.  Some of the openers were okay (at least better than crappy formula radio music), but I didn't hear anything else that I'm gonna be reminiscing "I saw them when..." in the activity room at the retirement home in a few years....

many, many thanks to seth for such a fantastic night, too bad i didn't get the chance to thank you personally.
Also a job well done by kosmo, nice one.

what a great venue merriweather is........i was kind of surprised by it too be honest, not at all what i was expecting.  the screens were excellent and well positioned, and the sound quality was super sweet. i loved the 932 bar nice touch a real home away from home.

i really enjoyed interpol's set.... and the cure certainly proved the oldies are the goodies.

very nice to meet up with the old boardies and always nice to meet the new ones too.
