wow, $100 for orch pit?  in the past orchestra pit has usually only been $10 more than regular orchestra.

i've sat up there before...its ok if you REALLY love the performer, otherwise its nosehair city

center front orchestra are pretty decent seats at the Trap

actually, if you ask me, all seats at Wolftrap are decent...i've never had a bad seat there

It's close to center...I'd rather be in row D close to center, than Row N center  :)

It looks like if you just asked for 1 ticket, you got a much better seat than if you asked for 2 or more tickets. I could only pull row N by asking for 1 ticket. I needed 3, so we are in row R center.

I continue to find it annoying that the best seats are often not at the presale, but instead at the general sale. (Unless you don't mind paying $100 for orchestra pit!)

I always find it hard to get good tix at Wolftrap during regular sale!

Donors get first dibs on seats at Wolftrap before they go to general sale.

Presales aren't usually designed to get you the best seats.  They're designed to give you the best  opportunity to get seats.  Less competition.  Easier access.  Sometimes that leads to great seats.  Sometimes it means you avoid a show selling out in 4 seconds.  And I think most presales offer a little of everything.  Seats right up front as well as further back.  But they don't claim ALL of the really good seats.  I think that's fair.

Someone said they got seats in Row D.  If you don't want to pay for the pit, it's hard to do much better than Row D.

Being on the lawn at Wolftrap is a much more pleasant experience than being in the amphitheater, anyway. That is, as long as it doesn't rain.

I know many of you need alcohol to enjoy a concert. If you're on the lawn, you can bring your own alcohol in and drink it right there. If you're down in the seats, you can't.

Will DJ Charlie entertain the lawn people with some fresh new tunes during the Morrissey show?

I'm going to have to miss that one, for aforementioned reasons.

But can I also add that I think it's absurd that Wolftrap (and Birchmere, not sure about other venues) would charge full admission price for a two week old lap baby?

I see the point about Wolftrap donors getting first chance at seats. That seems fair.

I think that people who buy at presales are generally bigger fans, and I think they should be rewarded for doing research to find the presale or being on the fan club mailing list. Maybe the very fact of the presale is its own reward, but I think the best seats should be released at the presale. I think at general sales, the best seats are often grabbed by people who plan to resell them. I could be wrong, but that's my opinion.

I personally don't find that there is a better view at any area venue than inside the venue at Wolf Trap - the closer the better is a given.  The sightlines and sound are better than anywhere else.  If you're lucky enough to sit up front, you don't have to look up and hurt your neck all night long either.  The stage is at a reasonable height.

Wow, I read somewhere in this thread that the Pit was $10 over the rest of in-house.  That's going back a way.  The pit has been $75 got most performances over the last several years.  There have been one or two other performances where the pit has been $100.  They are definitely the exception and not the rule.  If you get the opportunity to sit in the pit there, it's definitely some of the best seating you'll ever have.

As far as drinks etc - no, you can't bring anything into the pavilion (water only).  But, you can get there as early as you like - pack whatever you like in your cooler, and hang out off to the side.  It's very easy to get in and out of.  Of course, if you want to consume throughout the show, you'll need to be on the lawn.  But, they don't even inspect the contents of your cooler - bottles of hard liquor, wine, beer - whatever you like - bring it.
