I'm sure you talk fine. Your first post just read a little awkwardly.

Thatguy was on a PBS special about body modifications a few years back.  I suggest people check it out, it is quite enlightening.  There are all sorts who work at the club, some who were in the honors programs at school...

Most "punks", at least when I was growing up, were spoiled upper middle class white kids.

Perhaps that has changed since punk went to the mall.

i long ago rejected the punk look or any other look because i came to realize it was just another uniform. who needs a look just be yourself is my motto, er , um creed? did somebody say Creed? argghhh!!! i usually dress comfortably, u know , hush puppy shoes... seriously i go with as little as possible on cuz im always friggin hot esp in a club.

 there's:
 - the janitor's coat look,
 - the im from the 1950's look at my sideburns, see?-look
 - the all black 'NIN is my god' look

im sure there are many others, care to list some of them? [in a mr rogers-cardigan voice] "i knew you would"

Something tells me from the style of Pungen's posts that s/he is one of the modern youth of today that have grown up on Instant Messaging and SMS...

yeah, probably. regardless of the fact that i wanted to be an english major for quite a while i constantly catch myself (while typing) leaving out  conjunctions and all forms of punctuation. at least i don't "lol".

but anyway, as far as the punk thing goes.. i agree with muschi, it's just another uniform. i was in that crowd for a couple years and i thought since these were the kids who "lived it rough" that i wouldn't be expected to waste every dollar i earned at hot topic in order to be accepted.. how silly of me.
i did an art concentration on homeless people in roanoke that same year and found that a large portion of my young punk friends were homeless. the few who did have a job worked at taco bell. i'm not trying to stereotype and say that all punks seem to have that going-no-where mindset but i've yet to meet one otherwise. one of my good friends in high school a few years back lived for punk.. fuck society, fuck social order, but she was a great artist. she ended up dropping out and moving to arizona with some guy she met offline.

Punks are among the world's most image- and fashion-obsessed people, and the worst thing is, at least in the DC hardcore scene of 20 years ago where I got to know these folks, it was an incredibly hypocritical sort of image obsession because nobody wanted to admit that that's what they were doing.

It's no surprise, really... anyone who wants to define their entire being according to some pop-culture category is involved in image-sculpting.  It's understandable when you're a teenager steeped in insecurity, but hopefully most people have snapped out of the need to belong to such peer groups by their 20s.

I use to find that was very true, at least years ago, for many of the DC Punks but far from the truth for most of the Baltimore Punks. The Baltimore scene was just happy that something they could relate to was finally happening. Granted, you did find your uniform Punks after awhile but you could almost always tell the difference. I'm going back years ago though so things have changed a whole lot since then. Can't speak for your's or other areas too much either as I can only assume they had their own characteristics from all classes of society.

Over the years, way too many of them have changed their uniforms to the work uniform even on their days off. I fully understand that on work days but it's still a uniform for many of them on their off days just as much as the Punk garb.
