Yes, that's all I was doing. [/b]
sounds like irish tv is at fault then, i've heard the quote a bunch of times on doodlevision, and its always been exactly as ggw described [/b]
It was actually on the radio and I heard the quote from the correspondent myself....he was on again this morning but I still failed to get his name. I'll try to get it tomorrow as I'm sure there'll be another update from him.

As for Chaz and GGW...this hurricane/tsunami just proves that thanks to hee haw and his band of right wing chicken hawks, even God hates doodles now!!! (Note to self, return my doodle passport asap) [/b]
Unfortunately, Mankie, you're wrong on the facts surrounding the quote that set you off.  The comparison, and the widely repeated quote, originated in the office of the  mayor of Biloxi, MS.  Biloxi took a 30-foot storm surge that destroyed 90% of the city's structures--not so very different from a 50 foot wave taking out 95% of the structures in the coastal settlements of Southeast Asia.  The comparison is pretty apt, from the point of view of the Mayor of Biloxi.  As to its subsequent re-use by journalists, among them the one you keep mis-attributing with originating it, an argument with their sense of perspective might legitimately be advanced.  But extending that to a blanket indictment of all doodles all the time regarding everything rather richly deserves the abuse you've drawn.  I would argue that blindly interpreting all observations according to your preconceived notions about Americans is as grotesque a distortion of clear and humane thinking as any of the thoughtcrimes you have tried to hang on "doodles" as a whole.

My apologies,

To anyone who found my comments offensive. I was just completely taken aback by the comments "this is Americas tsunami" made by the American correspondent John Farrell on RTE2 radio, and so reacted accordingly, if maybe innapropiately for some of you. I just thought comparing hurricane Katrina to the tsunami of Dec 26th was just bizzare.

As usual, certain members of this board attacked me for my comments, and I responded with venom as is my nature...which I make no apologies for by the way, that's just me being me.

And for the record, I do not hate Americans, I have very dear friends who are Americans, and I actually hold a US passport which means I chose to be an American, unlike you natural born doodles....and on the subject of  the word "doodle", it is used as a harmless nickname, just as "brit" is used for the British, and "canuck" for Canadians (still trying to figure out the canuck thing though...something to do with a canoe I've heard). It's not a put down or insult, merely a term of endearment and I use it because the standard "yank" would be offensive to Americans from the confederate states.

Anyway, this thread and the direction it took has bugged me for the last couple of days so I just wanted to get that off my chest.

I am a prick I know, but not an American hating prick. Sure some things about you lot in general bug me, and make me shake my head ruefully at you all, but even though I'm not religous I went to the local church and lit a candle for the vitims of Katrina today.

BTW....I'm not a potato eating twat, well I am, but I'm an English potato eating twat living in Ireland, which, as a side note I've bought potatoes the last couple of weeks in the local supermarket, the first lot were a product of Isreal and the second a product of Great Britain, a little ironic.......no?

[/b]
Yeah, the 22nd amendment forbids the election of the encumbent President's relatives, right?  So Jeb can't run as the next family member?  hahahah

BTW:  Those people who "evacuated" New Orleans...were mostly tourists in rental cars - leaving the poor - who coincidentally were predominantly black.

Now we have a race war underway too.  Great management techniques here - lots of self-congratulatory film bites from the Administration and homeland security crowd for their prompt response to this disaster - nice suits, dudes.

We're  sitting pretty in our clean homes, with food, water and air conditioning, pissing about gas and concert ticket prices, but our government has failed those poor souls.  The freekin' emperor has no clothes on...

What a horrible situation.  When I see the photos from the football "dome" which have now shown the same scenario day after day, I am ashamed to be an American.  O'Mankie:  You have a right to slam us...over this.

It's sad, but maybe next time they will listen to the evacuation warnings.

I'm sure some of the people that didn't leave were just being stubborn, but in many cases these people had nowhere to go and no way to get there.  N.O. residents are something like 80% native to the city, so it's not they all had an auntie in texas they could just drop in on....

This is dumb.  No reasonable person would think that the comparison made between the hurricane and the tsunami literally meant that the same number of people were killed.  What it meant was that both were disasters of staggering proportions.  Do you interpret the Bible literally, too?

Also, blaming people for not evacuating is a an asshole thing to do, a lot like blaming rape victims for wearing short skirts.  Have you noticed that a lot of the people left behind are poor and black?  New Orleans is one of America's poorest cities.  It costs money to leave home, it costs money to find shelter.  Most of the people left don't have it.

You think one example proves a point?

There's something wrong with smug little Republicans like yourself sitting in comfort at their computers and finding blame with people who are currently going through hell.

1) I'm not Republican and 2) Your dumbass is sitting in comfort at your computer also. I've donated money already, probably more than you make in a week, have you? Didn't think so. So just sit there and keep crying, I'll keep listening.
