getaccess is the latest scheme of clear channels to lighten people's wallet and fill otherwise empty seats at their shows... considering how few clear channels shows i go to a year it's a total waste.  ain't american wonderful... corner the market and then raise prices in order to pay off the debt incurred getting there.

He called this year the worst time for the concert industry that he can remember.

Shows that used to sell-out don't sell-out anymore.

People are going to fewer shows.

I don't think that was his point.  Listen to the piece.

What I took from it is that while there are lots of acts touring and lots of places to play, prices are higher so people are being more selective in which (and how many) shows they go to.

Wow, I've been to more shows this year than I have in a long time.  But, it's true, very few shows sell out (which I selfishly enjoy, but I can see it's not good for the industry overall).

Is that a Washington thing, or a general trend, I wonder.  Thoughts from the show-going public?

Personally, I've been to fewer shows this year than any previous year I can remember. It used to be, especially at the 930, that it was a relatively inexpensive night out....cheaper than dinner and a movie pretty much, so I would go to a show, regardless of who's playing for a night out. Now, with ticket and drink prices where they are, it's a lot more expensive so I tend to save the cash for a show I really want to see, and for me, this year has been terrible.

doesn't seem like rocket science...if i've got $200-$250 to spend on shows per year, and the prices are going up, I'm going see become more selective about whay i see, becuase i'll be able to see fewer shows.

actually i'm a miserable old twat who is rediscovering the fringes of the 60's and the numerous bands past and present influenced by that period.

see as fall is the return of the mod, at least in terms of fashion designers, it would be great to have a return of mod sensibilities as well.  some new classic soul, r&b, and garage would be fit in nicely.
