« on: May 19, 2003, 09:50:00 am »
oh, don't roast me about wanting to go! i want to see interpol and blur. i'm just going to buy a ticket off some geeky teenager for cheap money and  check out my bands and leave. that said, i don't want to wait around all day and am trying to plan accordingly. anyone got an idea of set times? whfs.com isn't much help.

ah yes, forgot about the roots and hot hot heat. okay, 4  bands i want to see. did you see that the roots are at nation friday night? if i didn't hate nation so much, i'd just go to that and skip hfstival. they tried to throw me out of there once for having a sharpie pen for signing cds. apparently pens are contraband. i had to coat check it or toss it. i kid you not. a permanent ink marker, contraband in nation. not to mention how they pat you down EVERYWHERE!  and i mean EVERYWHERE. that was not cool.

I'm with you on purchase plan.  I'm thinking 15 bucks... Going just to see Blur... Never saw 'em.  Yeah, I'd like to see Interpol again, but saw 'em once from the perspective of the singers shoelaces, and I'm certainly not risking life and limb against a mob of acne ridden, heavily pierced adolescents to do that again.  I have a fear that Blur will go on late.  I have no inside info here.  But on a global perspective I believe Blur is the biggest band by far at this festival.  They are not going to accept a late afternoon slot to play 5 songs.  On the other hand, your average "good charlot, chevelle, audioslave" fan will show little interest in Blur.  I think they will put Blur on late, maybe even close with them.  I hope not, because like was mentioned, you never know before you get there.  Worst case scenario:  Hot Hot Heat on B-stage at noon, interpol same time on main, and Blur at 9:45.

Well, after going for the last 4 years, i would say, your first 2 are likely to be right. however, HFStival ENDS by 10:30pm, so no chance of Blur going on that late. the fact is Audioslave, Good Charlotte and Godsmack will all go on last, which puts Blur back to 7pm at the latest, If i were to take a guess i would say 6pm. And i would put Interpol on the 2nd stage (not me, them!)

I am selling my tickets. anyone need a pair?

hrrrmmmnnn. hot hot heat and interpol don't deserve to be on the second stage. bugger. maybe someone will have a line up that they will secretly post at 4 am saturday morning so i know whether to stay home and unpack or venture to rfk and buy myself a $10 ticket.

thanks ggw. if that bber is indeed correct, me thinks i'll spend the day unpacking rather than waiting for 2 hours between every set. perhaps i'll just give in and go see the roots at nation friday night.

yeah, well thats just what some person guessed.  the roots wont headline a "rock" show.  thats just silly. HFS barely knows who the roots are, they will play earlier. earlier than Blur even.

Yeah, that's just what someone guessed, but The Roots thing might not be a bad guess.  In past years they closed the show with The Chemical Brothers or The Crystal Method or another band that only appealed to part of the crowd to stagger the crowd leaving.

in 97 they closed with prodigy. that was insanity. beyond insanity. dangerous is a better word. we had press passes and they made everyone leave the stage area that wasn't with the band because of the crowd.

i'm kicking myself in the ass for missing the roots this past fall when they did two, not juse one, shows at the 930.

Ah yes, 1997...first time I got to see Echo & the Bunnymen reformed.  Bjork was supposed to play, and they replaced her thank God.  Glad I got to see Prodigy, but the time I saw at the 9:30 in 1998 was more enjoyable, but even more sweltering. Beck was a disappointment, but most of the other bands were great.  Of course, it was kind of nice having that press pass and not having to endure the masses (except during Prodigy, which was truly INSANE).  Hanging out with the Cardigans, Blondie and Jamiroquai was more fun, LOL. And when Supergrass played the 9:30 that night, it was rock stars galore...I remember splitting a cab with some of the guys from Echo.

the roots won't headline. they will close out the show. hfstival often ends the night with a band that's big, but not necessarily the most popular. last year it ended with paul oakenfold on night one and the x-ecutioners on night two (after eminem). so i think that that guy had some pretty good guesses...
