Remember when Marco Rubio announced Carly Fiorini would be his VP in September of 2019?
You mean Ted Cruz

Oof. Yes. And it was in April, not September of the year before apparently. I was way off!

That was surreal...such a desperation play...

I really don’t know when Biden should announce

Part of me says not for another few weeks..Trump is so busy stepping on himself

Democratic convention starts Monday August 17 so maybe between Friday August 7 and Wednesday August 13?!? Maybe try to hold a socially distanced event, do the Sunday news shows one weekend? That must be their thinking

Of course the earlier you announce the more time you give Trump to plan and execute dumping Pence and roll out Nikki Haley potentially stealing your thunder...but we don’t know Trump will do this...I don’t see Haley hitching her wagon to Trump given current shit show

I'm not so sure about this
But I do see them pulling this out to steal Biden's thunder when he announces...as that is all everyone will talk about if Trump does that

these videos of the Gestapo batoning and teargassing Moms can't be good optics

I think about Selma and the local police  using dogs and firehoses....but this is different
It's the federal government doing this

“Hail Mary Haley”!!
She's gunning for it
Nikki Haley@NikkiHaley
It is a new low for Pelosi to refer to the Trump Virus. She didn’t require masks in her committees until mid June & opposed the China travel ban.The only one to blame for this virus is China. Many have died. We should be unified on that front not playing political games with it

Or if the markets - betfair and predict it- are small enough I suppose someone could rig it?

Either way Rice’s surge and Harris’ slide have been happening for about 6 weeks now

These are still huge numbers right? During the Great Recession when Bush Jr was President weren’t we losing about 600,000 jobs a week? Maybe I am conflating different stats

I think I am mixing this up with unemployment

First time jobless claims can go up but if more people are getting jobs for a given period unemployment numbers can go down

regardless....The total unemployment claims filed since the beginning of the pandemic have moved up to 51 million
we are approaching Great Depression-era unemployment
Jobless claims are tricky too...as there are lots of people who can't qualify for whatever reason that are not being counted

Republicans scrap Trump’s demand for payroll tax cut as they cobble together draft coronavirus bill

this is good news and another ding to Trump

Payroll taxes help so few.  If you are making $20k a year, you are talking $5 a paycheck.  It's absurd to think that is going to help
Oh yeah, if you are uneployed...no benefit for you

The estimates were that the $600 extra the fed gave pumped $50billion right back into the economy and helped on a lot of levels
Landlords were getting rent, people were buying stuff from stores so they could stay in business
Had that not been there, I think this downturn would have been tremendously worse

Republicans are always soo worried that some poor minority is scamming the system
Yes there are few that might not go back to work if the unemployment is higher, but I think the majority of people would rather have a job.  And those jobs are not there, so it's a silly argument

The grift from the corporations (that benefit very few) is soo much larger
