Against my better judgment, I tried to get seats at the $53 or $78 level, but they all seem sold out.
-
Yes, got the $78 seats in the upper level. I do not this there we many $53 seats. Should be a good show, since he always puts on a good. Granted, I know that it will not be as good as the Wall show that I went to in 1990 in Berlin that he did.
-
i was able to pull up seats in all price ranges during the amex presale but decided not to buy any. i've given myself a challenge instead: i'm going to this show only if i can score tickets on the cheap, the week before the show.
-
i tried this morning but had no luck, I'll apply sweetcell's strategy though, we'll see...
-
I know someone that might be able to get me tickets, so I'm going to try through him.
A month later, Waters is playing in Philly for two nights with a 5 day gap in between his NJ and Philly show. So I'm guessing a 2nd night could be added in DC for that timeframe.

I wouldn't count on it.. DC has historically been a one night town.
-
Not a fan. But I was looking on craigslist for ticket to something else, and found this:
http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/tix/1733533768.html
Does that help?
-
the wall was a hugely influencial album for me in my teens and i'd really like to go to this show... but for once i don't think it's worth as much as the artist/promoters/etc think it's worth. getting a last-minute ticket will add to the excitement, and will be a way to challenge my streak of not being denied a show.

i'd love for this to happen (would make getting a ticket on the cheap easier) but unlikely. if they're going to do a second date, they'd most likely do it immediately before or immediately after the current date. but who knows, stranger things have happened.
-
I went to see him at Montage Mountain years ago and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen, despite, or because of, a huge storm throughout most of the show. I would highly recommend going to see him.
-
I could pull only the $253 "Limited View" seats and a couple on the floor at the back. He's just added dates in Boston, East Rutherford, Ft. Lauderdale, Long Island, New York, Montreal, San Jose and Toronto, so DC may get another.
-
wow . . . i guess my thoery in the hey seth thread was way wrong. glad i got presale tickets!!
-
Pink Floyd was a top-3 band for me in high school and I had the opportunity to see Waters in my hometown in 99. Back in the day when you could wait outside arenas to get the best seats, I camped out the night before and got a pair of third-row (still the best "seats" I've ever had at an arena show) for $25 each (amazing). I was much bigger into WYWH and Animals than the Wall, but it would be cool to see the whole album played. He also played some of his solo stuff at the show, which is really good. As far as I can remember, he also had a nice light show. Pigs was by far the highlight of the night for me.
I know album sales aren't the driver of finances anymore, but it is still mindblowing to see how ticket costs have increased astronomically in a decade. Like many people much older than me, I feel fortunate to have been able to see Waters before tickets became unaffordable for your normal part-time working high school kid.
-
i went insane and battled years of deep, delicious depression in my youth . . . all while listening to the wall over and over and over. then some dark side, but always back to the wall. i remember the first time i saw the movie. geldolf became my inner deamon to stroke and keep as a pet. i just had to see this concert, and i know roger counted on people like me to pay those prices. i think i'll go shave off my eyebrows now.
-
The Wall was on tv last night. I saw it for the first since early high school. It's really not a good movie: it lacks any subtlety and every image is just a vagina.

i watched a bit of it as i was flipping through the channels... it was on fuse, i think.

maybe that's why i had chills....
-
They had the strangest pre-sale on rogerwaters.com.. If they picked your name for the presale, you had the option to buy a ticket that is located in 10-15 different sections. You buy the ticket now, they tell you your actual seat location in a few weeks. All the sections were decent so I guess any will be ok, just weird how they did it.
-
i'm not finding the answer to this question anywhere . . . is this going to just be roger (and whoever else) singing the songs of the wall back to back with a screen behind them showing images, or is this going to be a full on production like they did in berlin (building the wall, planes, huge puppets)? it would seem with so many dates, something like the latter would be hard to pull off so many times. but if u2 can cart around their sets, i guess it can be done. perhaps this is why the tickets were so high.
-
I'm under the impression this is going to be the full-on Wall show, with the puppets, collapsing wall stage, the whole bit. If you look at the VCtr seating chart you can see the size of the stage, it chops off a good third of the arena. I expect Roger will give us the whole mega-show, at these prices, and also as one last hurrah.
-
I was much bigger into WYWH and Animals than the Wall.
Exactly. Resurrect the band and basically perform the '77 tour all over again and I'll pay $500 to see it. It'll never happen, of course.
Roger Waters & a back-up band playing the Wall just doesn't cut it.

Certainly not with Richard up in the Great Gig in the Sky
-
Yeah...Richard being gone does indeed change the reunion dynamics quite a bit. He was pretty special.
-
In similar news, I'm actually considering paying $200 to see Neil Young. Someone please talk me out of this.

He's not even playing with Crazy Horse.

"Rock icon Neil Young will hit the road for his first solo concerts in many years on the Twisted Road tour, which begins on May 18th and continues through June 8th. As an even rarer treat for fans, Young will play solo in several of the region?s classic theaters, offering a program of his classic songs along with the special privilege of hearing brand new, as yet unrecorded songs for the first time. British folk legend Bert Jansch will open the shows."
you're special . . . for $200.

make that three nights in philly - third night just announced (nov 11 - Remembrance Day/Armistice Day/Veterans Day!). should be really easy to get a cheap ticket in philly. there is a presale for the third show, PM me if interested.
looking more and more unlikely that DC will get a second date. first show isn't sold out yet.

Agghhh, I want to PM you but I am on a waiting list for DC that will automatically bill me if I get a ticket.
-
3rd show presale starts tomorrow (thurs) at 10 am, just lemme know.
-
So I just snagged some tickets for DC (cheap seats). Can't wait! Waters better not lip sync.
-
so ya
thought ya
might like to
go to the show?
i have a line on some great tickets - sixth row, section 100 or 111 (in other words, center ice). they're slightly below face. i'm looking for someone to go in on them with me since i need to buy the pair. PM if interested but don't wait, i'm not the only one interested in them... they won't last.
-
we shall be close in the seating arrangements. :o
i'll wave and hold up a lolcat sign or something.
-
but we'll be meeting tomorrow at freefest, right? so i'll recognize you at the verizon center. great, just great!
-
how much sweetcell?
-
nevermind...
from chicago show:
"Not one mention how most people booed when Roger sang, "Mother, do you trust the government?" or how songs with the strongest political messages plastered on "The Wall" met little applause."
"Roger Waters' a legend. Nobody's going to deny that. The problem that I have is: Behind the Eisenhower war and hunger quotes, pictures of impoverished children, and Mercedes-Benz logos dropping as bombs is $145 concert tickets, $45 concert t-shirts, $25 concert programs, and $9 beers.
Don't get me wrong, Waters' and all his theatrics was worth $145. However, the guilt, anti-establishment message, gets lost in all the other inflated prices."
-
like i said, just below face :)
edit: seriously? one blog entry, and you're out? i can find you 10 bloggers that will tell you it's the greatest show evar, if that helps.
-
well Gilmour won't be there, so yeah i'm out...
enjoy comfortably numb without him! I wonder how it would sound...
-
Actually, Gilmour is appearing for at least one show.
-
the solo for comfortably numb is being handled by dave kilminster (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Kilminster). definitely not gilmour but a respectable replacement.
gilmour will almost certainly not be at this show. he prefers not to travel much these days, so it's pretty certain that he'll be at one of the UK shows.
-
That's what I thought to, but a lot of fans are talking as if it is going to be at one of the US shows. I can't wait for the D.C. show. If anyone is interested here are some excellent quality videos from Chicago.
http://www.pinkfloydz.com/roger2010/sep20chicago/sep20chicago.htm
-
I was thinking Gilmore would show at one of the UK shows as well. If he does do one of the U.S. shows, you have to imagine it will be NYC or LA. The one thing that we do have going for us is that they may find some significance in the date 10/10/10.
-
Lemmy has a brother?

I always tell Joe he puts entirely too much stock in anonymous internet reviews.
If a review doesn't come from someone you know/trust, it shouldn't mean shit to you.
With that said, unless SYd Barrett was resurrected and involved, I *might* pay $5 to see Roger Waters.

Its "Syd Barrett" to you buddy!
Of course one should not put too much stock in one anonymous review but reviews have been pretty unanimous across the board that its a great show if you're at all into Floyd and The Wall... A friend of mine was at the Toronto show (2nd) and had very good things to say...
Having said all this I do not have a ticket...
-
Fixed.

funny, i just came across this regarding the first chicago show:
"A lot of the messages were anti-war and anti-establishment. The crowd ate it up, particularly when after the line "Should I trust the government?" The words "No fucking way!" appeared projected on the wall."
;D
-
darn . . . a thread i can't be a crabby prick in.
-
I saw the show last night in Pittsburgh and it is absolutely fantastic. I've seen Waters many times starting with the Radio KAOS tour, and this was my favorite time seeing him by far. The production is amazing. If you are on the fence about going, I strongly recommend it.
-
Dear Lord. Pink Floyd and everything associated with them are unspeakably awful. If "The Wall" "changed your life", then you must be an over-sensitive emo prick. You make Conor Oberst look like a Navy SEAL. You pee sitting down. You think you understand what life's...all...about...MAN. The GREAT GIG IN THE SKY!!!! "Should I trust the government?" HELL, NO! They're trying to monitor my electricity usage for my grow lights! PIGS!
Pink Floyd is like cheese in a mousetrap for other artists. If they genuflect at the open notes of "Brain Damage" then you can tag 'em, bag 'em and throw them in the scrap heap. Trent Reznor and Wayne Coyne? I'm looking at you.
Brian
-
now THAT'S the old school brian walalce we all know!
-
I think Walalce 2.0 has had a decently high batting average.
-
Can't say that I agree with Brian's opinions of Roger Water's or Pink Floyd but I sure as Hell love reading his rants! :D
-
though brian rails against the very thing he himself is doing in his post--i'll leave that one alone--i must say most of what he speaks about is just boringly wrong . . . from my own opinionated side of things. i myself have grown out from the past of it all and decided to stop saying this band is no good or that band is. who cares. i can't do what they do, so whom i am to judge. things do change people's lives, brian, (it's not that big of a mystery) and yes they can waste too much time on the memories of the event. all thinkers of mistrusting authority are not only potheads who seem to have all that time to protest because they can't hold down a job. your mistrust is seen through apparent, and somehow i feel you've never even tried drugs. and please . . . all bands are "cheese in the mousetraps" for other artists. ever heard of the stones, the who, all blues musicians, the beatles, the doors, the dead, all motown artists, etc, etc....??
the end.
-

yes, he's heard of them. and he hates them just as much.
-
No. I don't subscribe to the circle jerk/daisy chain theory of rock n roll heritage worship. Because in the end, you're going to wind up getting f***ed:
Lady Gaga munched Maddy. Maddy sucked the chrome off Bowie. Bowie bent for the Beatles. The Beatles hound dogged Elvis, etc.
You don't HAVE to respect anything in rock n roll. Rock music is a Big Mac wrapper. Hasn't history proved that those who know every groove of "The Velvet Underground & Nico" or "Rubber Soul" are actually far LESS enlightened and cool than those who haven't? Remember all those 16 year olds who went apeshit for Matt & Kim Saturday? Yeah? They haven't heard of Bob Dylan, either. The days of Fab Four acolytes are over. No more Oasis or ELO. Just glorious, bastard drones. With no connection to Robert Johnson, Hank Williams and/or Kei$ha. You don't need to read the Bard's first folio to enjoy the "Twilight" books. And you don't have to listen to "Loveless" to turn up Travie McCoy.
And if Pink Floyd songs were "the songs that saved your life" and "the only ones that ever stood by you" * then I guess more power to them. So all these kids can stop the Ritalin and just listen to "The Final Cut?"
It's just that Pink Floyd songs:
A.) Use such simplistic, obvious methaphors that their fans take as deep thoughts. "Us & Them?" Authority sucks? Sometimes we build...wait for it....WALLS around ourselves to isolate our emotions? I'm actually glad Pink Floyd broke up before they got to some of the trickier ones like "War is bad" or "Love can hurt" or "Where do all those stray socks go after you're done with laundry?"
B.) Fine. They used heavy-handed metaphors that millions accepted as gospel. But they were all about things that were only relatable to.....the members of Pink Floyd! I mean they REALLY wrote songs about the common man. Being a rock star can be isolating? It really sucks when the Brian Jones of your band becomes a acid casualty? Doing grade A blow can leave you "Comfortably Numb?" Gosh! They were like the British Springsteen! So AUTHENTIC!
Brian
* Which raises the point, if Tom Waits can be nominated for the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame why aren't the Smiths? What did Tom Waits achieve that The Smiths didn't? Neither had great record sales. The Smiths certainly sold more, though. Weren't the Smiths more influential? The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame is such a Baby Boomer/Jann Werner joke it's more an honor if you never get in. It's officially sponsored by Lipitor, Viagra and Fidelity Investments. But all the white liberal guilt is showing. Putting Jerry Garcia or John Lennon on the cover every three issues didn't get Kurt Loder any more pussy. So the bitterness is directed at those who got out. For an institution so dependent on The Village Voice, the great revelation is that 50 Cent may not have a problem getting in. It's "college rock" like The Pixies that may.
-
So do you like anything?
-
though i bemuse at the floyd jargon, i cannot fault a man . . . for taking his emotional range/rage so seriously.

The sound of his own voice...
-
Brian Wallace - What a douche-bag.
-
thats quite an epic meltdown
-
i wonder if Brian speaks like that in real life, esp. when he argues.
-
So do you like anything?
Good question.. No love for Tom Waits either? Hard man to please...

Brian, you're one of the best things to ever happen to this board.
-
I'm pretty excited for the show tonight.
Quick question: I'm driving from Baltimore and was wondering if it is easier to park at the Verizon center or just park at Greenbelt and take the green line to Chinatown?
-
super excited as well!! actually getting my other half out to a show! first time in years! in my opinion, parking at the verizon is the only way to go for seeing a show there. so what if you wait a bit to get out with all the other cars. you're right there. and god i hate metro nowadays. it seems the whole system, plus the people on it, have gone into the shitter here recently.
-
You're probably aware of this already, but you may like this blog: http://unsuckdcmetro.blogspot.com/

100% agree
you DO NOT want to park at greenbelt..
-
i'd recommend the parking @ greenbelt. driving downtown will be a pain tonight. parking will be extra-full - given the price of this show, i think the crowd will have a higher percentage of suburban drivers vs. metro'ers. metro = 30-40 mins to let that last beer fade away before taking the wheel + not having to crawl out of a parking garage (and paying $25 for the privilege) and then fighting stop-n-go traffic (a portion of which will be drunk).
if you do park at verizon, i'd recommend getting there on the early side.
in terms of time, i think both options work out to be about the same.
-
I live in greenbelt and use the green line to go to concerts all the time, just use the wmata site to figure out the best time to catch a train heading downtown.
I believe the verizon center pays metro extra to ensure trains are available when events are over. I see lots of sports fans use that method of getting to games.
-
just get there early and do street parking like 3-4 blocks away (near 6th and I).....never had a problem parking there on a sunday...
-
what is early? i planned on five-thirty, sixish. am i good.
-
that is good...

-
Watch the orange and blue lines tonight at metro center and a few other stops. Those stations are closed. You have to get off at like McPherson square and take a shuttle to get around metro center. Check the metro website for more details.
-
Thanks for the answers. The metro wins.
-
Pulled a pair in section 112, row S a few hours ago. Would have bought them, had they been considerably less than the $500 they were asking.
-
I just got back from the show.
Quick thoughts:
Visually, it was the most impressive concert I've ever seen. The stage set up was fantastic and watching the wall be constructed and then demolished during the show was great. Some of the videos shown were very moving too. I would love to see a video explaining how this tour was made possible. The sheer logistical and technical achievement is inspiring.
Waters lip-synced heavily. I was really disappointed at how few songs he actually tried to sign without any form of assistance.
Also, the guy singing the Gilmour parts did decently the first half but sounded really bad during the 2nd half. Especially on Waiting for the Worms. However, that is a hard part to sing.
Sitting in the nosebleeds by some drunks kind of sucked. Dear people with poor concert etiquette, if you're just going to yell loud things the whole time and get up literally 5 times to get beer you may want to reevaluate why you go to a show.
Overall, I'm glad I went but in terms of musicianship, I wouldn't see him again.
-
From our seats (Section 104, on the far end of the arena) I could not tell if he was lip synching. It didn't even occur to me. Looked like he was singing it, to me. Unfortunately we had a dazed and rather smoked-out section, so our energy level was a bit lax, but the view was great, sound as superb as it gets, and the visuals, well let's say it was like nothing I've ever seen before. My friend commented: is this the pinnacle of concert visuals or is it a beginning, a taste of what we can expect to see in the future? Overall it was a pretty astounding show. The emotional highlight probably the "Bring the Boys Back Home" song and visuals, and "Run Like Hell" was pretty great as well. Huge puppets, crashing airplane, floating pig. huge wall tumbling down on-stage. Not quite sure if it was rock and roll, but it was definitely theater.
-
my pix: http://picasaweb.google.com/sweetcell/RogerWatersTheWall10Oct2010
on the one hand, i can see why someone might hate on this show. it's over-blown, it's mainstream rebellion, it's hypocritical (anti-commercial? really?), it's 30 years old, it's whiny, etc.
on the other, it was a kick-ass rock show like few others. the visuals were without equal, the musicians basically showed off for 2 hours, and it was a heady mix of the familiar and the re-interpreted. if roger was lip-synch'ing, i didn't notice (not that i was paying particular attention). i left the arena on a high.
-
Excellent pictures Sweetcell!
The sheer scope of what they put together was mindblowing. It was a spectacle that was worth seeing once in your life and I'm glad I went. True rock and roll theater.
-
Good god that looks like quite a production. I'm beginning to think I should've gone.
-
thought it was a great show. nobody in the bathrooms or the beer lines on both occasions that i went. i have never seen that before at a concert. and the couple i sat next to, loves widespread panic and thought it was cool that i wore my wsp blue indian shirt. could not believe the cost of merch . . . or the guy in front of me claiming it was worth it, "because i bought it here" ::) thought the puppets could have been better, and the production borrowed too much from the movie. the one scene showing the girl loosing it after her soldier father suprises her in class was the best moment of the entire show. thought the final wall tumble down wasn't as dramatic as it could have been. but thank you roger . . . a concert even better than that nin/qotsa show and awesome no matter where you sat! i was in middle of 100 toward the back . . . i think real close to sweetcell, and the sight lines were perfect!
and parking at verizon was the best choice. left show during final bits of outside the wall, made it to car into less than four minutes . . . out of verizon garage and searching for pizza by the slice ten minutes or less later.
-
could not believe the cost of merch . . . or the guy in front of me claiming it was worth it, "because i bought it here" ::)
seriously. those were some really nice shirts, nicer than your average concert tee, but $40-$50? eh.
i was in middle of 100 toward the back . . . i think real close to sweetcell, and the sight lines were perfect!
indeed you were - we were in 101, towards the front.
-
indeed you were - we were in 101, towards the front.
So was it one of you lot that was standing up for the whole show and pissing off the fat lady in my section? I was in 102 and she screamed at them for most of the first half (most everyone was standing during the second).
-
Thought the show was great, granted not as fabulous as when I saw it in Berlin in 1990.
Will agree with the only thing that sucked were the folks poor concert etiquette. I did not have a problem with the folks that got get more beer. They least moved fast as to not to block you view and for the most part had some form of manners. Now the ones that wondered up and down the steps and then stood there blocking your view, were real turd eaters. These folks need to reevaluate why they go to a show.
-
Thanks for putting up the images form the show, they are great!!
-
There is audio of this up on the normal outlets.. Great show indeed, glad I went.
