free-market economy is indeed great, but scalper-induced artificial demand is distorting it.  cutting out a non-value-adding middleman is a tenet of good capitalism.  scalpers are no better than politicians that demand bribes for "letting business happen" - they only make the economy less efficient.  they do nothing to add value.

please, someone challenge me on this.  i want to put to rest the false "it's just free market forces" argument, because it's wrong.

Has a recording of the 9:30 Club concert appeared on any torrent sites yet?

Have any of you downloaded recordings of the Asheville shows? If so, please recommend a couple shows in particular that were exceptionally good (in both recording quality and artist performance)?

 Thanks!

The 6.23 and 6.27 shows on archive.org are amazing. 6.27 has the better setlist, imo.

SP.com has a video of our protest and clips from all around the show.

ding Ding DING!

yeah, it's called free market economy...last time I checked, it was a good thing...although this scalper as well as his customers are all clearly ass hats!

can this thread be over now? (my posts have been known to kill threads in the past) [/b]
no, but i agree with you.  people whine and bitch about everything, scalpers, ticketmaster, 930 drink prices, starbucks, etc.  but do they stop giving money to them?  nopers!

i know its stupid and people have been known to call me "boycott boy"  but when i am in disagreement with something i give it no money.

i dont use ticketmaster and i miss shows because of it.  thats life.  people who buy these scalped tickets and bitching about it are stupid.

   definitely.

I can't find a link right now, but if I recall correctly, scalping is not explicitly outlawed in DC, except for sales on public property.

If I am unavailable at the time tickets go on sale, or if I don't know that I can attend a show until some time after the tickets sell out, then ticket brokers certainly provide a service.

The problem with tickets - and this has been written about many times - is that free-market forces are already circumvented by the practice of limiting supply and setting prices well below their free-market value.

So now all tickets should be put on sale with a bid system?  Have a ste period of time to offer your best price and he who has the gold rules?  yeah that will work.  It will only drive tikcet prices higher...  Actually TM has alredy started down that road.  For many shows they have the 'auctions'.  Look for all the primo seats to be that way before too long.  All 1st tier seating will be TM 'auctions' in the not too distant future.

There used to be an exclusive Pumpkins torrent site.

 It might be www.the-zomb.com

I am not advocating anything, just noting that ticket sales (for popular events) pretty much violate free market forces from the get-go.

or you could try to go to less popular shows..you know, discover new bands that fewer people have heard of that charge $15 or $20...these are better anyway!

I know the SP show was priced relatively cheaply to begin with, but all the hype and big extravaganza-ness of it would be a turn off to me..pah!
