And before Sonick disagrees, remember I have alot of friends who are Red Sox fans up in New England who agree with this statement. If the Red Sox win the world series, their first reaction would be, "we won and the Yankees didnt". IF the Yankees win the world series, not one mention of the Red Sox would be in their post game speech (maybe Wade Boggs said something). Just like everytime the Red Sox sign a new star, the first thing they say during the press conference is "this is the year we beat the Yankees". Well Carl Everett was wrong, Manny Ramirez was wrong, Pedro Martinez was wrong and I'm sure theres a couple of others. Maybe Curt Schilling will be right. Eventually someones gotta be right, If you say it a hundred different times its bound to happen at least once.
let me make 3 points.

 1. you disgust me, goddamn New Englander routing for the Yanks.

 2. we are always looking at the Yankees cause they are always ahead of us in the division. dont the Leafs always look at the Bruins like that?  :)

 3. i dont really care if the Yankees win the world series if we dont. as long as they dont beat us in the playoffs to get there!

3a. I dont even want the world series if we dont beat the Yankees in the playoffs to do so. (i dont want lame NY excuses!)

My point exactly. What lame NY excuses? Trust me, no one in NY will be that angry when the Sox (eventually) win the world series. And if the Sox beat the Yankees in the playoffs there will not be much of an uproar after about two weeks. Not like the months long group therapy sessions in Boston last year.

Also, it's not as if beating the Yankees (or not) en route to the World Series changes anything about either franchise's history, or even the "rivalry" that they share. Look at the head to head numbers - there's not much of a rivalry, only in the minds of some Sox fans... the ones who chant "Yankees Suck" at Patriot games, and let their 8 year olds wear Yankees suck A-Rod t-shirts...

just the excuse that we still havent beaten the Yankees.

if the Red Sox beat the A's and the Twins and then the Cardinals to win the World Series, you dont think any Yankees fans would say "well, you're just lucky you didnt have to play us"

    I know several who would.

thats the only excuse i was referring to.

Actually, it won't even cross 99.9% of the peoples minds in a couple of days. Well, unless you keep brining it up of course. [/b]
Then I'm the .01%...I still bring up 1997 Divisional Playoffs. (Go ahead, everyone delve it out)

I was at Yankee Stadium in 1978 and saw scores of fans with Red Sox suck t-shirts.

I'm also not a Red Sox fan, but it does my heart good to see the Yankees get their asses whipped.

While I enjoyed the Yankees getting slaughtered yesterday as much as the next guy, I do find it quite funny how much the media (and Red Sox fans) have gotten all over this.

Hey Sox fans, it's not like YOU GUYS beat them 22-0.  It's quite sad when you have to spend this much time because ANOTHER team beat them 22-0.  Do the Sox have the same success against the Yanks?  I think not.  Just win by one run in game 7 and then talk all you want....

But, now that the media is focused on the AL East race, nobody is going to watch the two teams from the AL West make the playoffs.  I think this is a good thing.

i just thought it was funny to mention to rob and that other yankee guy/girl on here.

the way i see it,if the Sox keep playing well, they'll get in , and worry about the playoffs when they get there.

Do you really think both Texas and Oakland will make it?

And the funny thing is, when the Yankees beat the Red Sox last year and every other time, I never phoned home or wrote an e mail to my Red Sox fan friends and rubbed it in. You know why? Cause what comes around, goes around. And I know how Red Sox fans are.

My buddy the last time I was up in Boston said that he was at a bar for game seven. He's a huge Red Sox fan but he was laughing at all the people at the bar who were crying when Boone hit the home run. He said he was embarrassed to be a Red Sox fan at that time by their reaction, still chanting "Jeter Blows" and "Yankees Suck".

The Yankees or Red Sox will be the wild card team.
